disturbing incident at BC Place last night

"Sportsnet.ca -- The Vancouver City Police Department and the Canadian Football League are conducting separate investigations following a highly-unusual incident in which an official was allegedly struck by a patron during Friday night's pre-season game between the B.C. Lions and Saskatchewan Roughriders at B.C. Place.

During the third quarter of the game, which Saskatchewan won 24-15, a male patron entered the field near the Roughriders' bench and made contract from behind with side judge Steve Dolyniuk, touching off a wild melee."

I am glad that no official, team personnel, or player was apparently seriously hurt here.

No word was given in the article re the health status of the official who was attacked, but no news is good news.

Oski Wee Wee,

I have been very angry with some officials over the years, but never angry enough to assault one.

This gives all Good Fans a Black eye.

Why do all good fans have a 'black eye' because of the actions of a stupid moron in British Columbia?...

I don't feel the least bit responsible for that jerk.....or jerks like him.

Jerks like this one, aren't real fans anyways, there the ones that find any excuse to cause a ruckus(looting and rioting after a championship, starting fires, turning cars over etc.)This element is not just in sports but in society in general and are not real sports fans in any way shape or form, but low-life sh--t disturbers, just looking for an excuse to start trouble :thdn:

An update on this story:

"Sportsnet.ca has learned that a man who allegedly attacked a Canadian Football League official during the B.C. Lions and Saskatchewan Roughriders game at B.C. Place last Friday has been charged with assault.

Matthew Whittick, a 22-year-old resident of Abbortsford, has been charged with assault and ordered not to go to B.C. Place, Constable Tim Fanning of the Vancouver Police told Sportsnet.ca on Monday.

Whittick is slated to appear in court June 29."
