Dimitroff Named New GM of Atlanta Falcons

Another interesting news item today is that Tom Dimitroff, the son of the Ticats' former coach of the same name in 1978, who recently served as the Director of College Scouting for the New England Patriots, has been hired as the new GM of the Atlanta Falcons. Here is the link:

TCTD, that’s Tom’s son, Tom Jr. Tom Sr., the former Cat coach, died recently.

Tom Jr. is 40. He will be a great hire.

Oski Wee Wee,

Hi oski-oui-oui:

I noticed that just after I posted the thread and was correcting it while your post was being submitted. However, I did not know that Tom Dimitroff Sr. recently passed away. Thanks for the information and belated condolences to his family.

8) I believe that Tom Dimitroff Sr. passed away several years ago, not recently !!!

Tipper, you are likely correct. This is what was sent to me last year when I was completing my all-time Ticats coaching record list:

Hi folks,

One clarification regarding Tom Dimitroff needs to be made. There is some misinformation on the site about him. I received the following info from a fan in an e-mail tonight:

"Russ..... I am having trouble getting into my addres on TICATS.CA , but wish to let you know that in your past coaches thread, it was stated that Tom Dimitroff is a player personell scout with New England. The individual spoken of is Tom Dimitroff Jr, who played at the University of Guelph in the late 80's and early 90's. Tom Dimitroff Sr. coached the Ticats briefly, then coached at the U of Guelph for +/- 5 years. In 1993 he went back to the Cleveland Browns and scouted for them. He is since passed away, but his wife and daughter both still live in Ohio. Son Randy is located in Burlington with wife Val, and 2 children. Tommy Jr. lives in the New England area. Randy is a close friend, and I played for 1 year at the U of Guelph for Coach Dimitroff, the most influential coach I ever played for. For your information, and to help me live in the past, if only for a minute ......[name withheld]

Hope that clarifies that.

Congrats to Tom Jr....I think the Falcons have landed a great football guy!
