Day 9 of training camp

STAMPEDER TRAINING CAMP – DAY 9

Monday, June 11, 2007 - 07:14PM

(Calgary) – Following the success of their mock game on Sunday, Stampeder players and coaches did not waste any time hitting the practice field again today to continue to perfect their skills in preparation for their first pre-season game. Training camp will continue with its usual two-a-day format Tuesday and Wednesday while the pre-season game hits the turf at McMahon Stadium at 7:30 on Friday night.

PLAYS THAT STOOD OUT…
The offense has experienced a great deal of success throughout training camp, which is largely due to the capability of their offensive line. The play of linemen like Derek Armstrong and Riley Clayton often goes unnoticed but should not be overlooked, as they continue to contribute to the offensive line that is central to all areas of the offense. Defensively, Shannon James and Cornelius Anthony have demonstrated their versatility at the linebacker position, combining pass coverage skills with run stopping abilities. Scott Coe has also exhibited why he is a 5-year veteran of the CFL, showing leadership and expertise on and off the field.

Throughout the two practices of the day, Nik Lewis caught three deep, well-thrown passes in stride near the end zone which he converted for touchdowns while on the other side of the ball, Brandon Browner used his reach to intercept two passes away from the offense. Burke Dales was also active on special teams as he punted the ball past the 65-yard mark on more than one occasion over the course of the day.
