Damon Allen was as surprised as anyone. He was only expecting to pick up a cheque when he stopped by the office during Grey Cup week, but he was also handed a second envelope informing him that the Toronto Argonauts had picked up his option for the 2008 season.
The 44-year-old thought he had played his final game with the team.
“I don’t know what it all means,” Allen said yesterday. “It’s new. It’s surprising, in a sense. I’m not sure if other teams expressed interest, and they decided to pick up my option. I’m not sure what the case is.”
Maybe the CFL will start an Old-Timers league. Damon Allen, Dave Dickenson, Milt Stegal, heck, let me go dust off my cleats......I'll join that league!
........seems there may be interest from another club....so the Argos picked up his contract...probably to use him as trade bait....I can't see him ever starting for T.O. again...and to be truthful...i don't know what another club would give up to get him....strange????????????? Damon should be directed to the nearest ol folks home for football heros of the past....
whats with this check pickup. its the 21st century, havent they ever heard of automatic deposit??
with option years the act of picking up the cheque also gives proof to the continuiance of a contract.
That said a coaching player if needed position would be good for him and the argos. Let’s them work up the new talent without having to worry about a second/third stringer getting upset at lack of playing time
