Well, kinda fun while we’re waiting for Sunday. Never mind Argos, Elks have only signed 3, Hamilton NONE of their FA’s last I looked. I would expect this to be a very busy week for them as there are a bunch of players those teams want to keep.
What I find very interesting is that, outside of Hardy & Addison in Ottawa & Philpot in Calgary, no receivers of note have been signed. I expect a lot of teams are wondering what the $$$ in the WR market is going to look like come next Sunday when the window opens. Likely a big readjustment there. As the highest non-QB group in the CFL maybe a lot of teams are playing a wait & see as that will impact what they have to allocate to other positions. The big names @ that position are probably not getting the kind of $$$ they expect, as Hervey publicly alluded to.
Concerning receivers, I think teams are realizing its not worth paying a fortune to a receiver, particularly imports, young talented ones are always out there. The 300K to the likes of Lawler and Lewis are gone
terribly written article. Schoen won’t be going to Saskatchewan, why would they sign a man who’s dealt with injuries? who is to say that he’ll be healthy throughout the 2025 season?
if anything go bring back McInnis from BC. letting him go was really stupid!
Also, Lewis needs to mature and stop being a “me me me” teammate. He has to realize that it’s about how the team does, not how many catches, yards and Touchdowns he gets…
//Schoen would be joined by Samuel Emilus, Shawn Bane Jr., KeeSean Johnson, Kian Schaffer-Baker and Dhel Duncan-Busby to form an incredibly high-powered group.// I think you forgot Dohnte Meyers. I have expected SCHOEN to SSK. Riders have a good game winning set of receivers. But Schoen will add a firm hand to the list.
Ford may stay in WPG or to West - either EDM or Calgary.
Grant may go to Capital or BC?
Schoen would an ill advised acquisition for the Riders. The Riders have enough great receivers as is Free agency money would be better spent on another stud DB in the mold of Milligan and Sayles A lot of teams will be after Tyrell Ford. I’ld like to see the Riders go after him or someone close to his ability. Schoen won’t come cheap. Let someone else pay him
Schoen will not get an offer from the Riders. They aren’t big free agent guys and we don’t need him. He had an injury season last year and would be too expensive. As already mentioned they didn’t list Dohnte Meyers who was our top receiver once he got a shot off of the practice roster. If they go after any receiver I expect it will be to just resign Stern. Outside of that I expect Oline and replacing players lost in free agency.
Fun article. I think the receivers the Riders have in place are excellent. I don’t want them to spend big money in that position during free agency. My guess is Patterson and Hicks will not be back. Trevor Ried is gone. I would like the Riders to beef up our O and D lines. The reason the Bombers handle us in playoffs is due to outplaying the Riders in the trenches. That’s where the money needs to be spent. A healthy Jermarcus Hardick will be a great start. Our QB and RB spots are solid. Need a dominant O line.
I predict Ajou will be back mid season. Hopefully he stays!
My my how the riderville fanbase like to dream about “This and That” when their gm is on record today as saying don’t get your hopes up high as he won’t be active pursuing big name free agents as he’s prone to having continuity on his squad. cfl.ca, … as the so called official website of the cfl it would behoove you to do your homework (more professional) and go straight to the source’s like the regina Leader Post, 3 DOWNNATION or the riders gm himself instead of this laughable wishy washing hypothetical guessing crystal ball article. This so called official cfl.ca website is in need of a serious overhaul, maybe another provider steps in as the Official CFL Website altogether.
Looking at the list, I can’t say I necessarily disagree with you on who might have been offered deals.
Maybe taking a wait & see is the way to go. The Elks can see what the market is willing to pay & always have final say after the window closes. It gives one a bit of a different perspective & may be the reason you have teams like Hamilton, Argos & Elks in particular sitting on the sidelines & letting other teams set the standard or perhaps overpay on their own FA’s.
Is Beard on Hervey’s radar? Both he & Korte play CTR but Korte played Guard when he & Beard were together. Korte also played every position on the OL while in Ottawa. I doubt that the TiCats would not match any offer though.
