I don’t think anyone saw this coming.

Sooo…now after a loss, do both brothers sit at the children’s table for Christmas dinner?

Just curious, does his wage as a consultant count against the cap for coaches and operations?

Probably not. When Jones was in Toronto as a consultant, I don’t think it counted either.

Most likely not, consultants fall into the loophole that is always present.
At least I think so. Could be wrong.
If it is in the cap I think theywould have had him pegged as some sort of coach instead of just a consultant???

That is my understanding as well. It is outside of the cap. Toronto did it with Chris Jones. Hamilton with Khari Jones. There have been at least one or two other examples. Perfectly legal it appears, but they really should close the loophole that allows a coach to be outside of the cap because of what he is called.

Maybe it only doesn’t count against the cap if your last name is “Jones” :sunglasses:

Ray Stevens…and then along came Jones

I believe you are correct. But the CFL made a move to prevent them from being present on field starting last season. IE: only staff covered under the cap was allowed on the sidelines during a game.

Kahari was only on the sidelines the first couple games last year before the change was made.

Yes I recall an eastern getting around the cap by hiring the current Elk coach as a consultant and changes being made because of that

Yup. But they are not the first team ever to go around the rules or to pay fines to be able to break the rules everyone else is following…

Oh I think they all have done creative accounting

I like both of the Dickerson brothers because both have displayed good football coaching skills - but I hope there is more to this hiring than nepotism. The fans and the players deserve the best the team can get. Did this happen in this case? Time will tell.

So now it’s Craig Dickenson Jones?

I doubt its just nepotism that got him a job. I have little doubt that his brother realized that he needs to offload some coaching duties to spend the time he needs to on his GM duties.

I have little doubt Dave thought the GM thing wasn’t that hard after watching Huf do the job. But with all his friends and contacts and all that Huf had already done the hard part years before. So the part Dave saw looked easy…
