Costabile: 4 storylines to watch in Week 16

With two upsets and a tie last week, we were all reminded that you never really know what’s going to happen each week in the CFL.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://www.cfl.ca/2024/09/18/costabile-4-storylines-to-watch-in-week-16

Very interesting week for all west teams.
Make it or break it for Stamps AND
Riders

Will riders come out of the “Groundhog day” - The max 6 game loop last 2 seasons? Inconsistent Mair is the issue for Dave. They should look for alternatives before the end of the season for the teams better luck next year.
Riders needs some adjustment if they want to win… Specially the run/return/FG area. Banked up rider OL will get relief if riders go with 2 RBs. They miss play action/time grinding in big time.

I feel Elks are going to make it big by 2 RBs as usual. The back to back games will share one each I would vote.

Montreal is on a sliding offense, as I feel. This week game will tell exactly what it is. May be they need a week rest?

West: It is anybodies field.
East: Solid and interesting playoffs looming.

Mtl if you win this I ain’t criticizing you for slacking for the next three weeks minimum. If you do lose I say you should maybe start to panic a bit.

Let’s see if mtl are a team that plays to their best now.

Beating Ottawa in Ottawa will end any questions about who the best in the league is imo.

Not completely sure its make it or break it, but it will be tough sledding from here in for the loser of that game…and its going to make the October 5th games with the Riders even more important.
The Riders (and Winnipeg obviously) are teams the Elks do not hold a playoff tie breaker for the season with.

Montreal is not the same team that they were opening week. They lost a lot of offensive talent as the year progressed and Philpot was the spark that ignited the offense. He will be missed down the stretch. Fajardo has not been the same since returning from injury. The offensive vibe just hasn’t been the same since Alexander returned to the bench. Anyone else see that or just me? Hamilton is a bit of an intrigue since Jones joined the defensive staff. Not sure they can find a way to make the last weeks interesting or not, but Bo Levi has put together an impressive season (lacking Ws, but he wasn’t the issue) and one that I really did not think he had in him at this stage of his career. Ottawa is a bit of an enigma. I think the staff have been a bit quick to pull Brown, which seems to track with Dyce’s tendency to make some odd calls, in game and out. What happened to the Lions last week? Offensive line problems! Kelly looks like he might be the match to ignite Toronto’s playoff fires. The Grey Cup sleeper has to be my Blue Bombs. If Collaros can avoid injury, the Bombs could really irritate a large portion of the CFL fanbase…again. I really expected their poor start to the season to be their ceiling after all the grey beards left and Brown took his game to the capital. Other than Calgary and Saskatchewan, almost anyone–even those surging Elks–could win the Cup this year. Going to be a ballin’ good finish to the season!
