If Old Roll Mulligan is the best the riders have to offer then that team is in trouble near the end of the season, Mulligan surely can’t keep up the pace in a 18 game season schedule. It’s best the riders brass keep recruiting and flying in backups to fill -in the injury depleted riders roster in regina.
My interest will be how the Lions do this week. They have been woefully unprepared the last two games. Even with a Bye week, the Lions had nothing new to offer on offence. Maksymic didn’t seem to have anything new to bring to the game so the opposing D seem to be anticipating every play. Hate to say it, but Ford and Elks should have no problem with this newly uninspired, predictable Lions team. The BC team lacks a leader. VA seems to have mental breaks when the pressure in on, esp. with all the MOP talk (remember the six interception game last year). He’s gone from the enthusiasm of Grey Cup rah rah to a thousand yard stare on the bench. And Dolegala? I’m yet to be impressed. There’s something missing on the Lions, coaching all the way down. It could be a blow out for the Elks.
I wonder if V A was already hurting, bang up . He just didn’t look sharp at all.
I too am interested in which Lions team shows up. I’m hoping that with Dolegala running the offence, it represents a change up of sorts that will include a renewed reliance on the run game with Stanback and Mackie. I was hoping Cottoy would be back for this game, since he is critical to the way the Lions’ offence is built.
The biggest problem for the Lions appears to be a lack of in-game adjustments when teams have effectively shut down the offensive game plan. I get it that the Lions want to stretch the field to open up the underneath and sometimes get fortunate to hit the home run, however, not getting first downs on 2nd and medium or 2nd and short is a chronic failure the last few weeks. Drives need to continue to keep the D off the field, super basic stuff. Frustrating to watch. Perhaps simplifying things for Dolegala may achieve this change, even though the Lions claim it’s “business as usual” when asked about how the game plan may change this week.
