The difference is Marc Trestman is a public figure and his character, etc. can be questioned. He is not on this forum. If he makes a poor game decision he can be called out, even be called an idiot. But I`m not going to criticize someone here for poor punctuation.
I dont agree with D&P and Hfx opinion and Ive stated so. But I have no right to question their fanhood. They are fans just like I am.
RO 1313; Ive read your posts in past, as now, and will continue to do so in future. Trestman accomplished greatly in the CFL and, I respect his decision. He's ambitious man, and the fact that his work in Montreal was a stepping stone to the NFL is reasonable to me. I suspect the poor timing of his move was resentful by some. However, I believe our fan base will be pleased with future moves by management in securing a new coach and, recognizing that we do have a super veterans, I expect success in 2013. Personally I don't have a foes list as I respect all who post here and am comfortable with all others remarks. I would hope that no one lists me as their foe as some of my remarks might be made with conviction but i attempt to do so without malice.
Exactly, sheldon. That’s part of the game for people who are in the public eye.
I don`t agree with D&P and Hfx opinion and I`ve stated so. But I have no right to question their fanhood. They are fans just like I am.
Thank you, and the same for you. We disagree, but I'm not going to claim that you're not a fan just because you don't share my opinion. THAT is how a good forum should operate. Maybe that's why our forum here is thriving with activity while other Als fan sites are ghost towns. ;)
If we agreed all the time on everything it would be a pretty boring forum. No need to take shots but sometimes people get emotional or protective.
I don’t imagine this will help but I’ll try. We went through the “real fan” thing on the Bomber forum a few years back.
The thing is, there are somewhat objective criteria for hypocrisy (behaving contrary to your words) and treason (betraying a loyalty). So you can have a rational discussion with different opinions about whether either of those terms applies to Trestman given the circumstances of his departure.
One big problem with “real fan” is that there are no criteria; it’s a totally subjective notion, and therefore it’s more of a personal insult rather than a rational assessment of behaviour. One guy on our forum came up with the notion that “real fans” are only those who attend the games in person, which obviously would mean that there cannot under any circumstances be “real fans” in the Maritimes – absurd. But the point is, his criterion was totally arbitrary, as is any definition of who is a “real fan” as opposed to…what? a fake fan? someone who pretends to like a team but doesn’t really? It makes no sense.
So I agree that terms like hypocrisy and treason, as interpretations of Trestman’s maneuvers, can be debated pro and con (as a Bomber fan I haven’t presumed to form an opinion myself). But questioning whether someone is a “real fan” adds nothing but increased personal negativity to the discussion. There is no such thing as “real” or “fake” fans; there are fans of various degrees of intensity, and there are non-fans who pay no attention, and there are haters like the CFL bashers who do nothing but post insulting comments regarding CFL stories on TSN.ca; I still don’t know why the same ones are allowed to do it over and over again, but they are.
Banning a great francophone als fan permanently from the Grand Club for standing up to Bertrand Raymond and defending Trestman and Popp. Also trying to scare him with a lawsuit threat. And I thought I was the only bigot.
never going on rds.ca again or watching rds again as part of my rehabilitation.
Calling him out for a poor game decision is one thing attacking a man’s character is another
I disagree I feel you have every right…If someone came here and said they are a big fan then said AC sucks The Als suck and every player sucks…you would not question them?
That’s fine, but should you not expect the same?
Thank you…I dont post but I still read and I have a lot of respect for what you have to say
That’s bang on! There is no criteria. that is why it is an opinion
A cow is a mammal because it
Has hair breaths air have live birth and is warm blooded…Its a fact not an opinion
We all have our opinions as to what makes a fan
yet you jump on me because I don’t agree…and common don’t you think that getting your shorts in a knot over “so-called fans” is a bit much?
Biggest problem is because people read tone into a post…They read anger when there is none…They in-vision someone who is POed when they are not…Reading tone into a post can completely change its context
Ro, I don't give a flying crap about the tone of your original post. It was insulting, regardless of what tone you were intending. But it's all moot now, as you are going directly on my Foe list.
But again…Its ok for you to insult Trestman and Popp
so-called fan is bad…brutis hypoctrite traitor is OK
Put me on the foe list…I look at that as sticking your finger in your ears and yelling NA NA NA NA NA NA while someone is proving you wrong
Besides have you read what I said in the first place? How about commenting on what I have to say? The fact that you continue to ignore my points show me that you know im right So go ahead…run away
OOPS sorry…Im quoting too many people at the same time
One thing I wonder about is whether Trestman had an escape clause in his Montreal contract, or was he granted his release by the team.
Either way, I don't see how he is a "traitor" to the Als. If he had an escape clause and exercised it, then that's all entirely above board and understood. If he was allowed to leave for a bigger job, then that's just good management on the part of the Als. Any good employer will be happy to allow an employee to move on to bigger and better things. If they had said no, then they'd be stuck with an unhappy employee-- that's not good for anyone. Certainly not for a football team that has an unhappy coach. Better to thank him for his service and wish him well. That's just what the team did. Good for them. That's the way to be a classy organisation, one that other good people will want to work for.
Whatever it was the owner was cool with it. When Larry Smith left Bob did not show up and did not issue a press release…He wrote a nice press release when Brutus left.
