Former Hamilton Tiger Cat receiver turned broadcaster, Leif Pettersen, has died of an apparent heart attack.

My sincere condolences to his family.

Just heard on the radio that former TiCat and TSN football analyst Leif Petterson passed away yesterday.

He was 57 yrs. old.

That's horrible news. He was much too young. The CFL has lost another colourful character. Passings like this really make me appreciate every day, family, the important things in life.

Condolences to the Petterson family.

I remember watching him play for the Ti-Cats and enjoying good old number 71 catching passes for us.

:(

My deepest condolences for his family's loss.

Oh my God what a terrible shock. That is awful.

My condolences and prayers to his family.

Oh No!!!
Condolences to Liefs family....

Lief was one of my favorite commentators.

Lief was a class guy. My condolences!

This guy exuded class on those CFL broadcasts. It's very hard to believe this news--just 57! I'll always remember him as one of those honest soldiers, no hotdogging, just get the job done week in and week out.

It's a sad day

An Argo-Cat fan

I wish to echo this sentiment - Leif was a great guy.
No one has mentioned that he hosted a weekly Ti-Cats show on CHCH for at least one season several years back . . . I seem to recall that he was still playing at the time, because I distinctly remember Mike Samples being on the show, and I also remember a feature with Ben Zambiasi sharing his favourite quiche recipe . . .

Nonetheless, this is a great shock. I didn't know Leif personally, but I used to run into him once in a while in Toronto and I can tell you that he was very fit. He was an avid tennis player.

I also wish to point out that this is eerily similar to the death of John Cerutti . . . another former professional athlete turned broadcaster who died way too early - also due to a heart attack.

I offer my prayers to the Pettersen family.

That is an absolute shock. My sincerest condolences to his family.

When I was a teenager I worked at a gas station near IWS. Leif would come in quite often to get gas. He was one of the nicest guys one could ever meet and he always had the time of day for me. Leif was from Toronto but hated the Argos and loved playing in Hamilton. Great colour man as well. The CFL has lost a truly good man. Godspeed to you Leif.

My condolences to Leif's family.

I never met Leif but I will always cherish my fond memories of him

He was one of the most outstanding Tiger Cat receivers ever.

P.S.

Leif Pettersen played four seasons in Hamilton
and played in the Grey Cup with us in 1980.

In 1979, he was an All-Star and
led the East in pass receptions

He was the runner up for the Schenley
Award as Most Outstanding Canadian.

Great guy, great player. Too bad.
Sympathies to his family.

I never saw Leif play, but remember him as one of the classiest and most engaging color commentary guys ever.

My condolences to his family.

I'll never forget a spectacular one handed catch he made for a touchdown in the west endzone!!
