And I didn’t see that in Cobourne in Montreal. Their line often opened up huge holes for him, and Calvillo kept the linebackers honest with his deep throws and, surprisingly, his mobility, meaning he could get extra yards once he got through. Never once saw him run into the back of his blockers.
But you’re right that Cobourne is more likely to drop his shoulder to get that extra yard or two than Cobb, which is why I give him the slight edge. But don’t be surprised if Cobb does well somewhere else.
And I still want to see a true fullback to complement whoever we have as runningback.
This would actually make sense for the blue team. I hate Cobb as a starting runningback but he still has great hands and pretty good speed. He would compliment Boyd nicely IMO. Makes sense for us too, if we can get a draft pick or another Canadian player already on their roster thats a win for us.
a true fullback does not exist anymore, we did have fournier who im almost guarnteed could have gotten us a yard when we needed in 9/10 times, but Gibson was an idiot and didnt use a fullback
fullback is a lost art in football, even if we got one, seldom we’d use him
Isn’t that the truth. On that third and goal play from last year’s home loss to Calgary, my five year old nephew knew Cobb was going to get stuffed, and he was asleep.
Teams will trade for him if they figure that 6 or so other teams will be battling for his services.Trading for him means a) you won’t have to pay through the nose to get him b) you’re guaranteed to land him on your team.
Did you ever see the Stamps needing to sign Lumsden? No but they did.6 or so teams is an exaggeration but you get my point.Let’s say the Argo’s REALLY want Cobb to back up Boyd. But they caught wind that IF the Cats release him, the Stamps, Al’s, Bombers, Riders and Lions will be after him. They figure why take a chance, take a couple draft picks and we’ll get Cobb cheap on salary and we’re guranteed to get him.Not saying it will work like that but alot of the time it can.
Exactly. They signed him. They didn’t trade for him. By waiting for him to become a free agent, they were able to pick him up for a modest salary since a) Winnipeg was the only other team interested and b) Lumsden really wanted to be in Alberta to stay close to Canada’s National Bobsleigh training facilities.
I don’t know how much Cobb is currently paid, but chances are a team will be able to pay him less if he becomes a free agent. Look at the RBs around the league. There will be no bidding war for Cobb.
chances are there wont be a bidding war for him, ill actually be surprised if anyone even picks him up. But what 15 is saying is right. giving up a second or third round draft pick is nothing, and they would get him at his current contract. As for the Lumsden point how could they trade for him he wasn’t on a team…
Im not sure it's fair to use Lumsden as an example in this case. Lumsden is Canadian and could play special teams if asked to do so. Not to mention his potential is through the roof. Cobb is american and likely won't be able to play the special teams.Despite being durable, he doesn't have the potential that Lumsden had.
If Obie plays his cards right, he might be able to get a late round pick and/or a neg lister(which is fine), but there is no chance of getting a 2nd round draft pick for him.
You can tell yourself a bunch of teams are going to inquire about Cobb but the reality is not very many are, most teams are set at the position.
I would keep Cobb and play him at slot. He is great in the open field. Also, while incoonsistent, he has gaine over 1,000 yards the past 2 seasons. Not chump change. Avon actually didn't reach the 1,000 yard mark last year.
Also, is the new MLB good enough to replace Floyd? I would have tried to land Lobandhan.
