Coaching Search Process

When I look at how this GM is conducting his search it is starting to look like to me at least that he really can't get who he want's, or the people he really wanted to possibly hire don't want to be a part of the process. Quality candidates have to be able to have the opportunity to get quality coaches to work with. That is being hampered heavily with the way this has dragged on. My guess is whomever they hire may not be in the best position to be successful the way that this process has been handled so far. The fact that the owner and GM have not been able to make a decision at this point after interviewing who they have looked at should make people really wonder about how this will ultimately turn out in the long run.

I don't understand what you mean. The season does not start until July and spring camp can be held any time in April or May. The CFL hiring season is long over. 40 candidates applied or were talked too of those seven or eight were interviewed. I think this is how a proper search should be done. Trestman left the team high and dry after the CFL hiring season and after he started hiring his 2013 staff. It is frustrating but it is being well done given the circumstances. Panic hire would have been worse.

As tweeted by Jim Popp:

Senior Ah Me to be interviewed for the post of shoeshine boy. It takes a man of superior intelligence to do this job right and judging by the posts I have read in this forum he should be a lock over all other posters.

234ever will get latrine duty at Molson Stadium. No need for an interview. He is without a doubt the lowest common denominator here.

You off your meds ?

Exactement.

As I've asked before -does it not seem unethical to make public the names of applicants?
I mean-who does that in any profession? If you are applying for a job do you want that known? do you think it is fair for the potential employer to put that out on the internet?
Bizzarre

Make your day.

Richard

Why not ? What’s to hide ? If someone is applying for a job there should be no problem with it being public. Was it wrong of the Bears to put their names of candidate on the net ?

While the process is getting on everyone`s nerves, including mine, Trestman was named Bears coach Jan. 16. So the search has really been less than a month.

If he had left Dec. 15 and we had hired a replacement Jan. 15, I dont think we would be complaining. But he left late, and its now late anyways in terms of hiring assistants, so I don`t think a few days are going to make a difference other than satisfying our curiosity.

It`s an important hire that has to be right, so they are doing their due diligence and being thorough.

As for Popp`s tweets, I look at it that he is keeping the Alouettes and the CFL in the spotlight. There is no such thing as bad publicity.

Exactly, it is a complex process, we could hire the best HC on the planet if he can’t put together a staff he will fail. Anyway the tweets come from @JimPoppGM not @JimPopp and I think its the teams PR that is putting the tweets out. Because Jim tweeted this from his account this morning.

Jim Popp ?@PoppJim

Decided to tweet after 200 days…try it, not easy.

so…

I agree with you entirely. Publicizing the names of job candidates, on Twitter of all places, is unprofessional to me, besides serving absolutely no purpose but raising the profile of Jim Popp. This is not in the best interests of the Alouettes, or the candidates.

Hmmmm....I've never seen a list of applicants published by the team before.
Maybe I just missed it.
Doesn't seem fair to applicants...

If the guy is employed, the Als need the team’s permission to talk to the guy, so no secrets being exposed.

I like the transparency.

No, he ain’t off his meds. He just used some of Johnny’s!

Speaking of Senior ah me and Alouettes employment; Senior once tried to be hired as Adrian McPherson’s shower assistant. It did not work out. There is also a rumour he offered to be his bicycle seat, but it’s just a rumour…
