OFC Players of the Week:

Edit:
Even better, here are the POTW from all the conferences. Stamps fans will recognize a familiar name in there.

Offensive Players of the Week

Ontario Conference
RB Taz Bell – London Beefeaters

In very limited action the veteran running was more than the Skyhawks could handle whether the Beefeaters were passing or running the ball. Taz Bell led all rushers with 72 yards on only 10 carries with two of those runs going for touchdowns while also hauling in a pass for 28 yards.

BC Conference
QB Dominic Britton – Okanagan Sun

For the third time this season Dominic Britton claims this honour in the BC Conference. He was simply outstanding in a blowout Sun victory completing 15 of 20 passes for 207 yards and threw three more touchdown passes to give him 10 on the season. He also rushed four times and added another touchdown along with 48 yards.

Prairie Conference
WR Jacob Roger – Winnipeg Rifles

What a game for Jacob Roger on the road in a hostile environment in Regina against a solid secondary. Roger made 11 receptions for an incredible 252 yards, averaging over 22 yards a catch and tallied two touchdowns including one of 84 yards.

Defensive Players of the Week

Ontario Conference
LB Tyler Thompson – London Beefeaters

Thompson spent the greater part of the game terrorizing the Skyhawks’ quarterbacks as he tallied three sacks in the game. When he was not planting quarterbacks into the turf Thompson was bringing down Skyhawks ball carriers with four solo tackles for a total of 17 defensive points.

BC Conference
DB Keon Raymond Jr. – Prince George Kodiaks

It was a historic night in Prince George as the Kodiaks scored their first franchise victory. Their defence saw a couple of outstanding individual performances including Keon Raymond. He made three tackles, had a sack, two knockdowns, and he made the play of the game in the second half intercepting a pass and returned it 70-yards for a touchdown at a critical time.

Prairie Conference
DB Adam King – Regina Thunder

He was a force for the Thunder in their comeback win on Sunday. He intercepted a pass, recovered a fumble, had a knockdown and added 2.5 tackles in the secondary.

Special Teams Players of the Week

Ontario Conference
KR Dante Lewis – St. Clair Saints

In a classic defensive struggle on a rain slicked field where neither team was able to generate much in the way of offence, Dante Lewis, the reigning OFC special teams player of the year, provided the winning points on a 62 yard punt return for a touchdown. For the game Lewis had 141 total return yards on four punt returns and one kickoff return.

BC Conference
KR Mike O’Shea – Okanagan Sun

Another week and another weekly award for Mike O’Shea in Kelowna. The returner ran back another punt 82 yards for a touchdown and now has a special teams major in back-to-back weeks. In all, O’Shea returned five kicks for 151 yards. Over on the offensive side he caught six balls for 85 yards and had yet another touchdown.

Prairie Conference
K/P Nicholas Sirleaf – Calgary Colts

In a “fill-in” role Nicholas Sirleaf gave the Colts coaching staff something to consider. He booted a 41-yard field goal on his only attempt and was 5-5 in converts. He averaged 34 yards on seven punts and even pounded six kick-offs averaging 55 yards.

Anyone in Brampton looking for some football this Saturday afternoon?
(fyi, it's probably better if you're a London Beefeaters fan)

In the OFC, I'm looking forward to Ottawa vs Hamilton. This will show us who's third in the conference. The other two games should be blowouts with the top 2 vs the bottom 2.

I don't think any of the top 10 teams are playing each other this week.

But the #8 Hamilton Hurricanes are playing unranked Ottawa Sooners. Both have 1-1 records, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Ottawa take Hamilton's spot in the top 10 next week. The game is at THF field, though.

It's early but dates to mark on your calendar:

September 3
#3 St Clair Saints vs #5 London Beefeaters

September 10
#1 Okanagan Sun vs #6 Westshore Rebels

#2 Saskatoon Hilltops vs #4 Regina Thunder

London vs GTA today. Probably a blowout for the Beefeaters.

I didn't know that Okanagan's Mike O'Shea was the Bomber's coach's son! Looks like Coach O'Shea is in town to watch his son play tomorrow.

Edit:
...watch his son win big tonight.
