Mount Royal the other University in Calgary has officially made the move to the CIS for all sports for the 2012 and 2013 season. Along with it comes the CROWCHILD CLASSIC a series of games between the Dinos of U Calgray and the Cougars of Mount Royal in most of the top CIS sports Hockey, Basketball, Soccer among others. Missing however is the biggest rivalry Sport of All football.
When the Regina Rams were on top of the Junior football world they made the move to join U Regina to form a competative program in the Can west.
Mount Royal joining the CIS are ready to move there athletic programs to the next level. The Calgary Colts are now a top Junior football program already have McMahon Stadium as their home field. The Colts and Mount Royal, which is just 10 minutes from Mcmahon stadium, could be perfectly matched to make the move to the CIS.
The Mayor of Calgary, known to be a Dino fan, and the city of Calgary plan to be fully involved in the cross town University competition. I could not think of a better way to kick off the competition each year than with a football showdown at McMahon with students and other fans form Calgary picking a side at McMahon to sit in this yearly showdown.
