Which is everywhere from Vancouver…
You can’t have a thumbs down button if Strevellor has an injured thumb.
I certainly didn’t call him legendary or meant to infer that he was. My point was that he could be the # 2 or better QB on any team in the league and after thinking about it agree with Hitemhard that he could start right now for 7 of the 9 teams.
I agree in higher principle for the good of the league that Streveler should return to Winnipeg if he is approached by management, but if not he’ll go somewhere else with winning chances or just sit out until next season.
If it takes a kidnapping to make it happen even now, so be it and those plans shall resume course.
Far more than serviceable. He was a legit 4.4-4.6//40 runner who ended up levelling a bunch of linebackers and DBs who got in his way. He could also run like the dickens, a bigger/stronger/faster version of Dustin Crum. He also completed more passes during his tenure in Winnipeg than Dru Brown & Prokop combined. The knock on him is an average throwing arm (no 70 or 80 yd Ralph Brock hoisters and not the pinpoint accuracy of Collaros, AC or Bo Levi (in his prime)
I will take him on my team any day.
But it won’t happen, as we already have BLM, injured or not.
I really enjoyed watching him while he was a Blue Bomber, but I’m afraid his “best by” date will likely be closer to that of a running back, rather than a quarterback. If that’s the case, a team would not be too likely to offer what he might expect for his services. I DO have a lot of experience with a banged-up aching old body.
If he proves me wrong, I’ll be the first to congratulate him!
You might be right on the money re: Streveler’s best before. He takes a ton of punishment while dishing out his own brand of mayhem, gradually accumulating wear 'n tear. However, the primary objective of acquiring Chris #17 is an immediate upgrade on the back-up QB slot. No question anywhere that Streveler is a significant upgrade over Skip Prokop. . … . . . and even if he only plays half a CFL season and playoffs the upgrade could result in tilting the odds towards another Bomber Grey Cup win.
Anything beyond 2024 would be a bonus! If Streveler becomes heir apparent to Collaros, he could have a few years as Bomber’s #1 boy - making anywhere from $450,000 to $600,000 a season, perhaps more if he’s super-productive.
He hasn’t had a lot of wear and tear the last few years since he left the Bombers because he’s barely played. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like he will be back this year due to his injury and he will no doubt wait at least until the NFL season starts to see if he is picked up by another team if in fact his injury heals by then.
Looks like Mister Fur Coat hit his hand on an incoming helmet and injured his thumb. If he broke a bone he won’t be throwing for the usual 4 to 6 weeks it takes to mend. If he sustained ligament damage he’ll be on the shelf a lot longer than that. My guess is that since no one is talking surgery it could be anything from a sprain to a bad bruise. I don’t want to talk ‘dislocation’… those things make me cringe.
How long will Streveler’s thumb take to heal? Damn it Jim I’m not a doctor, I’m an engineer. Ask Scotty. He’s the doctor in this episode.
So long as Strev’s hand injury heals, the longer the better in terms of Bombers placing him on the roster. Other variable is Collaros remaining healthy and pitching wins.
Streveler would fortify an already top or near-top CFL team w. 4 to 6 games left on the season + playoffs. Won’t have to break the bank on this year’s cap as it might only represent 1/6th of a full season. Could get Strevs for as little as a $10,000 to $15,000 differential once they drop Prokop from the roster.
If the guy is hoping to return to the NFL this or next season i can see him going to the bombers on a short term contract
If he decides the CFL is where he will.be playing for a few years i dont see him wanting to back up anyone … he wont be starting in winnipeg outside of an injury so it makes sense he might end up going to a team that would make him.the clear starter
Esmonton,Ottawa and hamilton come to mind
Wait a minute.
I always thought that Scotty was the engineer.
At least from what I remember from my Star Trek days.
" Beam me up, Scotty "
Here’s where the geek in me rears its pointy eared head.
While trapped in an parallel dimension Engineer Scott needed an assistant to pull off a sneaky energy transfer. Everyone’s gaze fell to Doctor McCoy who bitched, “I’m a Doctor! Not an Engineer!!”
“Now you’re an Engineer.” Said Scott.
And the Enterprise went on to win the Grey Cup three times in a row (okay that last part I made up).
"He would instantly become the best running QB in the league, making Crum look like a plodding fullback. "
C’mon do you really need to pick on Crum ? The guy is a rookie who has made the best of a bad situation. I love Streveler and his toughness. He’s a linebacker playing quarterback. I hope Ottawa signs him and that Crum can learn from him. Just don’t shit on Crum. I think its a low blow to pick on a team that has not had much success for 2-3 seasons. So far he has given Ottawa fans some hope while doing his best dealing with a dim situation.
I think you are being overly sensitive and missed my point. No intention to pick on Crum. In fact by citing him specifically by implication I considered him to be the best running QB in the league currently as the stats support. The point is that if Streveler returned he would be the best given his speed and ability to bowl over tacklers. As I also said I don’t expect him to return this year.
Streveler has got to go to the Elks in my opinion. They got shut out twice by the B.C. Lions. The Lions have a very good D but it is not stellar. What happened with the Argos and against the Bombers de demonstrated that.
If you have lost 8 straight games then the offense needs to be fixed. The best place to start is with the QB and then when work from there. Does Winnipeg need Streveler as a back up? That depends on whether or not you think Winnipeg’s current back up QBs could not step up to the plate if Collaris went down. I’ve not studied the back up QB situation. But all things being equal Streveler it appears is better than anything the Elks have right now in the QB position. Cornelius and his back ups are trying their best but it simply isn’t working. The other 8 teams have figured out ways to win games. The Elks have not. The team needs a huge injection. If Streveler was good enough to try out in the NFL then it would be reasonable to think he could pull the Elks out of the slimy pit they have found themselves in. Just sayin.
If Bombers snuff out the Elks in a stinky way tonite (20+ pts or more) then something;s gotta give . . . . . but it appears CJ Jones is safe for the season (Why? I don’t know!)
Bombers have a kryptonite allergy to new QBs with Flash-like legs so there’s an outside chance Ford & The Elks slip by a lethargic Bomber team.
I expect he takes up a big chunk of the management cap … replacing him would be difficult to manage financially.
Ford backed up by streveler. Interesting.
