Chris Garrett signed

From the FP:

WINNIPEG –There's a new face at the Winnipeg Blue Bombers' practice.

Import running back Chris Garrett is at practice this morning, working out with the special teams unit.

An Ohio University product who's listed at 5-foot-8, 185-pounds, Garrett comes to Winnipeg as the school's all-time leader in kick return yards and as a first-team all-MAC selection following his 2009 season.

The elusive back had three kick-off returns for touchdowns in his college career with the Bobcats.

The Bristow, Virginia native did not go in the NFL draft and has spent some time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers over the spring/summer.

The Bombers have struggled in the kick-off return department this season, mustering only 820 total yards through nine games.

He was a RB at Ohio but people who were at practice reported he was taking reps as a receiver as well as working with the kick returners (Marcus Howell was giving him tips).

I like this type of player, hybrid RB/SB/KR type, Stokes comes to mind, definitely adds a dimension to the team we lacked. Now if we can get this 6'6" receiver Carr in there as well, that would make things difficult for most defenses.

Looks good, sounds sort of like an Archie Amerson type guy. Him and Carr could add some real diversity to the Bombers offense.

Archie, haven’t heard that name in awhile. Little guy, but tough as nails from what I remember. Where have guys like him Gizmo, Pinball gone ?

Only negative from the Banjo Bowl is we didn't get to see Chris Garrett return a kick-off. Don't mind that though.

,,,,..... i think we're saving him for the t.o. game  we'll unleash him there
