Choose the new head coach (short list)

C’est moi qui a coché la mauvaise ligne.

Autant la partir tout de suite. Ça donnerait un coup de pouce aux Carabins.

I'm surprised thee is even so many posts on Danny boy.He does not come close to filling the bill. ThatTaffe was even mentioned is interesting. With the Ti Cats he horrible, very horrible. I'm sure the fans were delighted when he left. He blamed everyone but himself One surprise I do have is the lack of encouragement to Jacques Chapdelaine. I like to have Canadian coaches in the CFL and, I'm sure he would have support with the French media and fans in Monreal.

I'm not a Chapdelaine fan by any means, but boy, I'd take him over Maciocia in a SECOND.

Agreed, except that I would prefer to hire a head coach with a defensive background if possible. If we get Doug Berry as OC, he won’t need hand-holding. He’s a veteran coach who’s worked with Anthony before, in fact guided Anthony to some of his most productive seasons from 2003-2005. With Berry as OC, we can hopefully hire a defensive-minded head coach to mentor and oversee Thorpe (assuming the new guy retains Thorpe) and help rebuild our defense, which has been pitiful the past two years.

Ultimately, Anthony is going to get his cookie and score his points, regardless of who’s running the offense (unless it’s Bellefeuille, LOL). The defense is the unit that really needs help and a firm identity.

I think an OC who masters the WCO would be the easiest way to go. Not a coincidence the two Americans interviewing are WCO guys. One with Walsh lineage.

It feels risky to bring in an American with no CFL roots and very little staff at this point.

I think a good staff could include
Chapdelaine ( although he is a bit stiff with the media) HC
Berry: OC
Mark Nelson DC ( why can't he keep a job)....I think his defenses are great. although I guess Noel Thorpe has that job but Nelson could fit in somewhere surely..

I do agree that Macocia never seems to take responsiblity for missteps. That certainly marked his time in Edmonton. As well, and this seems trite, but Edmonton fans were choked that he never got Alberta plates for his vehicle. He kept Quebec plates. It just seemed to signal that he was never all in. And Edmonton fans demand that.

But it is true he had 2 GC appearances as a head coach there. And wasn't he considered to be a good OC in Montreal in the Pringle days?

I know Hugh Campbell loved him in E and tapped him to be his successor. So he must have something going for him.

I have no concerns whatsoever in bringing an American Head Coach with no CFL background. Marv Levy,Charlie Taaffe and Marc Trestman did very well, despite no CFL background; as long as the most important Coordinators-Offense and Defence- have a knowledge of the CFL/have worked in the CFL,there are no concerns from me; in fact,I do hope for an American Head Coach with no CFL background.

My number 1 concern with Jacques Chapdelaine, is his bad relation with media/bad character. He was fired/not extended from/by Laval, because of this and despite winning the Vanier Cup.

A fan against Maciocia and Chapdelaine.

Richard

really? thats why he left Laval? I didn't know that. He can be a bit officious.

I don’t have a problem with it but I have a concern that we may not be able to find coordinators with the experience necessary or that they would mesh well. I think a guy like Hawkins who at one time was THE HOTTEST NCAA Head Coach is very interesting provided he’s willing to live in Montreal and commit to at least 3 years to the program and is open to Popp suggesting him some coordinators.

As for Chapdelaine. Maybe he just told Tanguay to mind his own business ? LOL Would not be the first time a HC tells an “Owner” to get his nose out of his business.

I have never read anywhere what the circumstances were. He came, he built, he won and the coordinator he hired (Constantin) is still there.

Speaking of Laval, they fired a coordinator today.

The other thing with Chap is that his Laval stuff happened quite a long time ago. It's entirely possible that he's not the same person he was back then. (am I making a case for Chapdelaine? man, I must really not want Maciocia)

I feel ya LOL

If Maciocia and Chapdelaine were the 2 finalists and I had to choose, my choice would be Danny Maciocia. He would have a much more better relation with the Press than Chapdelaine, would have less trouble than Chapdelaine to assemble a good coaching staff. You don't find it weird/surprising that Chapdelaine has never been hired again as Head Coach in CIS? He applied at many universities but was never retained.

If Hue Jackson-name mentioned by HfxTC- applied for the position and has been interviewed, he would be an excellent choice; I may list him ahead of Turk Schonert.

Richard

Is this just an opinion from you that he has a bad press relationship or is it well known in Quebec.
I do know that Chapdelaine was offerred a HC job in CIS but turned it down.

There is a pole on the CJAD page Maciocia vs Hawkins....

Go and vote... 3 to 1 Hawkins right now
