Trades are an anomaly in the modern CFL thus if Jones concludes Durant to be expendable (whether due to injury tolls or exorbitant contract or both) he may be forced to release him outright as is done with other stars of the day.
cases in point, Jones attempted to trade both Dressler and Chick but there were no bites…
CFL News ?@CFL_News
Jones also tried to trade the players to get something in return, but says no other #CFL GMs would take that deal - @JGasson_21#Riders
fair point HfxTC, although Glenn has also been released outright (by the Bombers) a few years back and thus not out of the realm of possibilities for Durant to be released especially with him being the highest paid QB in the league and Jones’ value-centric budget style.

Dressler believes he 'was never in the Roughrider plans' for 2016
CBC NEWS
In a farewell message to fans and the Roughriders organization, former Saskatchewan Roughriders receiver Weston Dressler expressed gratitude for support from the team’s fans, but claimed the football club didn’t try hard enough to keep him on the roster for the 2016 season.
“I am upset and saddened by the fact that there wasn’t more effort put in by the organization to allow me to remain a Saskatchewan Roughrider,” he said in a typed message that he posted publicly on twitter.
“Through my last eight years with this organizations [sic] I believe my actions and words have always expressed my desire and joy to be a part of Riderville. The negotiations that took place, or lack thereof, led me to believe I was never in the Roughrider plans for the 2016 season and beyond,” he said.
Despite what he described as a lack of effort on the part of the club, Dressler did say he thinks new head coach and general manager Chris Jones will be successful in his new role. Dressler also said he understands the tough decisions coaches have to make, and he has no hard feelings about being released.
As for support he received the team’s sizable community of fans, he said “Thank you Riderville for everything you have given back to me as a football player and as a person.”
He also thanked his former teammates and coaches: “Thank you to all the people I have worked with and played with over the past eight years.”
Bombers in negotiations with Dressler according to Tait of the Free Press....Don't know about the money but if it's location and close to home the Peg will be making a spot for Weston in their locker room..I think he has lots left in the tank and would be a welcome addition...We shall see shortly
Wouldn't be surprised to see Dressler in Winnipeg (as some have pointed out). He chose Saskatchewan because he liked being close to home. Winnipeg is not much further. Wouldn't be surprised if Chick packs it in as he just started a training business in Regina.
Durant has been reported to be the highest paid CFL player at $510,000 per while Ray and Lulay made $450,000 and $440,000 respectively with the latter two both agreeing to take substantial pay cuts from those figures starting this season.
It would appear that Durant remains the highest paid CFL player and may not be immune to the Jones’ hatchet unless he agrees to a marked pay cut as well.
Approximate salaries of the CFL’s nine starting quarterbacks in 2015:
Darian Durant, Sask. $510,000
Ricky Ray, Tor. $450,000
Travis Lulay, B.C. $440,000
Mike Reilly, Edm $405,000
Henry Burris, Ott $390,000
Bo Levi Mitchell, Cgy $320,000
Zach Collaros, Ham $275,000
Drew Willy, Wpg $250,000*
Jonathan Crompton, Mtl $120,000
The issue is not the money, Jones uses that for cover. Harris is less beat up so a better bet to hold up and has four years of experience in that offense. That's why they wan't him, because he can run that Trestman playbook, that's still being passed around.
Jones hasn't said ONE word about Durant since he arrived in Saskatchewan, his silence about the team's QB1 speaks volume.
Ray’s new deal is a Maximum of $490k If he hits All of his bonuses.
@FarhanLaljiTSN: Deal is for 2 years, more than half is incentive based. Could hit 490k RT @garylawless
