You seem to forget that unlike Vanvouver, Hawaii is an ISLAND chain 5 hours flying time from the mainland US where most things including cars have to be shipped. There are no islands or countries anywhere near Hawaii, it’s really an isolated gruop of islands.
I cruised from Van to Hawaii and it’s 5 days at sea. Of course everything would be expensive there, just the distance and isolation.
Van is expensive because of supply and demand and market forces, no comparison at all. Van also has 25% chinese, mainly ex Hong Kong that have driven real estate prices.
