Chad Johnson: CFL talent same as NFL (aside from elite)

It could be argued, America being a football factory, that the CFL is a higher quality league than the NHL.

Sure Canada is a factory itself, albeit in hockey, but one not even half the size of the States (in terms of population). Even if somehow otherwise football still doesn’t have the competition hockey does in Europe and Russia. Certainly not a wealth of production to support 30 NHL teams, never mind the 34 teams that are rumored…

No … Just no. The comparison is ridiculous and what’s the point ? The NHL draws players from all over the World to stick their player pool . This thread is now official delusional. Just treasure our league and enjoy the fact it’s Canadian and ours . People making ridiculous comparisons is a waste of time .

There is 2300 pro players in both leagues. I have yet to find a scout that can tell the difference between the 875 best player and the 1231 best player. The CFL is a diffrent game that requires a different type/ style of player then their NFL counterpart in some positions. There is a reason Linebackers in the CFL are only 190 to 225 vs 230 to 260 in the NFL. If the CFL wanted 250 LB, they would go get them, as there is enough around. Once your at the talent level of either the NFL and CFL, you will find that players make teams, due to past relationships with the coaching staff, or the schools they attended. Sure there is 1 or 2 NFL players on each team, that are superstars, but there superstars, and that much better then the other players on their NFL teams too. Some of the smaller CFL players who come out setting all sorts of NCAA records have more talent then anyone in the NFL, but will never get a shot because of their size, and that’s a plus for the CFL

Actually he has a valid point…
Canada has more organized hockey players than the rest of the world combined… The talent pool overseas is very thin and hockey is still a secondary sport in Sweden and Russia. Also, hockey players tend to be white. If the best possible athletes were playing the game, one would have to assume that the NHL would have similar demographics to soccer, or football…
