Well if Orlondo did go to the NCAA a few years back he may have been involved in the big game tonight. Quite a spotlight.
Michigan 34 - 13 over U of W.
Michigan head coach, Jim Harbaugh was suspended for the last three regular season games after accepting a deal with the Big 10 commissioner that saw the investigation against him dropped for long term signal stealing.
From ESPN - “Friday’s announcement from Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti came 23 days after the NCAA first notified conference and Michigan officials that it had received credible information that the No. 3 Wolverines had been involved in a sign-stealing scheme, in which analyst Connor Stalions and others scouted future opponents off campus, which has been prohibited by NCAA rules since 1994.”
In a 13-page letter sent to Michigan athletics director Warde Manuel on Friday, Petitti wrote that the Big Ten believed Michigan “violated the Sportsmanship Policy because a University football staff member engaged in an organized, extensive, years-long in-person advance scouting scheme that was impermissible.”
“The goal of the scheme was to gain an unfair advantage by stealing the signs of teams that the University’s football team was due to play later in the season,” Petitti said. “Such misconduct inherently compromises the integrity of competition.”
I was at the game tonight and had a great time. Not a masterpiece by any stretch; tons of sloppy plays. It was a one score game through to the middle of the fourth quarter when Michigan pulled away. The only unit that played top notch all game was the Michigan defence.
Good for you! Another bonus in being a new Texan. I watched the whole game. The Washington QB looked pretty battered by the end.
Texans in the playoffs too. Enjoy!
I went to a bowl game in Tampa years ago. Penn State vs Tennessee. Great time! We were honorary Nittany Lions fans. Treated so well. Unbelievable support from kids and alumni for their teams.
In spite of the final score, it was a very entertaining football game.
The “TSN Turning Point” actually consisted of 2 plays that happened in quick succession in the 4th Quarter:
With 11:46 left in the game, and trailing 20 - 13, a 34 yard pass completion to Washington’s #1 Rome Odunze (who will be a 1st Round Draft pick in the 2024 NFL Draft) was nullified by a legitimate and obvious holding penalty against UW’s#73. If that Holding call had been missed, the Huskies would have had possession inside Michigan’s 35 yd line. Instead they punted the ball back to Michigan.
On the ensuing possession, with 9:44 left on the clock, Michigan completes a 41 yard pass to their TE, Colston Loveland. This gave Michigan possession at Washington’s 30 yard line. I did not notice this as the play was unfolding, but when ESPN showed a replay from the EndZone camera angle, the referees missed an egregious Holding penalty against #53(UM). I have no idea how they missed it; Washington’s pass rusher had beaten #53, who desperately grabbed his jersey from behind. That play should have also been negated by a Holding call - but it was not. Michigan scored 4 plays later to extend their lead to 27 - 13, with 7:15 left on the clock.
I also want mention one more thing, because on this Forum we tend to be very critical of the TSN broadcasters on CFL telecasts . . . in spite of the fact that the Holding infraction was clearly captured on the replay, ESPN’s spotters either missed it, or the Director instructed the crew to not mention it on air. It was not mentioned.
If it were not for that missed Holding call that indirectly lead to a Michigan TD, I believe the outcome of this game would have gone right down to the wire.
