CFL Trade Speculation

Obviously just speculation but I’m looking at the two playoff finalist losers, Als & Green Riders.

Cody could be safe if both he and the team agree to continue, however I sense immense frustration in Montreal.

That might manifest a Cody-trade.

My thinking - Cody to Calgary for Jake Meier (to back up Davis Alexander) for Calgary’s #1 draft pick plus a monster d-lineman or o-lineman (if Calgary has anyone who fits that bill. Trading Cody creates a woff of cap space (Meier might have to take a haircut) plus the opportunity to upgrade an already excellent Macocia built roster.

The other loser team was Sask’n - would they consider trading Trevor Harris, who’s a really accurate passer but now running in cement boots at 40? I think so - if the trade was right - Harris might be an excellent backup in BC (to either Rourke or VAJ, whoever the Lions choose to keep)

Win or lose the Cup - I’d love to see the Bombers make a play for Dru Brown. Only has a chance of happening if Bombers win the Cup and Zach Collaros retires (at 36). Most folks think Zach will play another year or until he gets mamed. So that kinda transaction would be nigh on impossible. More possible at the end of year - if Zach calls it a day and Brown is FA.

They are verboten from talking about it but win or lose in Vancouver, the Bombers will reset to launch a final dynasty run for their own Grey Cup in Winnipeg next year. Brown is too good (and too expensive) to be a sideline caddy for Collaros.

Once again your past performance dictates you don’t really say stuff that is remotely believable

It’s hilarious you think Cody generates Jake, picks, and another player lol. Cody barely gets you a few picks, CFL players don’t have trade capital like the NFL, people never seem to understand that.

Really, for some reason, I don’t see the stamps lining up to trade for Cody, I think this is wishful thinking rumour mill bate.

Personally, I think that at least one juicy quarterback will drop from BC’s roster like a piece of ripe fruit, followed by Fajardo from Montreal, then Harris from Saskatchewan. The surprise QB’s to be added to the mix could be BLM from Hamilton or Maier from Calgary. I don’t believe for a second that Edmonton will part with fan fav Ford. They might move on from MacBeth but who would they get to play the part of Ford’s aging mentor?

Well, I guess we get to see a few more pieces of the management team, and some coaches first, before Edmonton makes any other moves. MBT’s deal was one season, and one season only, so little doubt they will be looking for a mentor. Although at moments this season it seemed Ford was more the mentor then MBT was…

Toronto, Hamilton, Ottawa, Montreal, all likely stand pat. (or should at the least)

Winnipeg don’t know.

Riders - Harrison is considering whether he wants to come back,

Calgary - who the hell knows. Dave seems to be losing his grip on what he wants, and since he’s GM that’s scary. They have half a dozen QB’s but it seemed they kept going back to Jake to win games.

BC is having a top to bottom look at their organization - as they should, but is, as some are saying already, Campbell out? Who replaces him may have to do with who they keep as QB.

Bo might be perfect to take on the role of Ford’s ageing mentor - but he’d have to take another significant haircut to extend his lengthy career.
Bo could also come on as an assistant head coach in Calgary, get himself groomed as potential successor to the tired old Dickenson/Hufnaked experiment. Only problem (could be an opportunity) is Bo already burned out one welcome in Calgary, albeit a lengthy and successful one

If Campbell gets the boot in BC, the only really seasoned guy who could take over that organization with a measure a personal quality is Paul LaPolice. Plop’s obvious problem is not generating offensive success (he’s great at that). He’s very timid with players, he fears locker room trouble-makers. You have to provide Paul with an enforcer type assistant to keep the troops in line. If that happens, LaPolice could take over BC in a minute. Don’t like Chris Jones taking over - way too belligerent and some sketchy personal foibles. I wouldn’t rule him out however as LaPolice’s defensive coach.

I don’t think Ford would come to Hamilton to be a backup? He’s entering his fourth year, doesn’t need a mentor, he needs to play.

I got no predictions
Just questions
Who does BC turf and who do they keep at QB?
Where does the BC turfed QB go?
Does Harris still want to play And Where will he play?
Does Cow town Keep the current number one who has not lived up to expectations?
what do the Elk do with the QB position?
NO way the cats trade Bo, and even if they did who would want him?
No way the Larks trade Cody either?
Will Toronto number one QB stay on the straight and narrow or will he falter yet again?
Does Zach have a Grey Cup and another season left in the tank?
What the heck does Ottawa do at QB?

Does Toronto WANT to get out from under Kelly? When his “issues” arose last April, there was little the Argos could do to replace him even if they wanted to … this is their first real opportunity to consider replacing him.

  1. Obviously, BC is keeping Nathan Rourke and will be trying to move Vernon Adams. Rourke himself made it known the BC has told him that he is returning for the 2025 season.

  2. Favorite to land Vernon Adams is Calgary because they would likely offer BC the most in return. BC wants a 1st round pick, so we shall see if any team agrees to that term.

  3. Trevor Harris is all about playing into his 40’s. So, there is no question that he wants to play in 2025. The doubt would always be whether a team wants him or not.

  4. Calgary definitely wants to move on from Jake Maier.

  5. By default, I think Tre Ford returns to Edmonton.

  6. Bo Levi Mitchell is still under contract for 2025. He would want an upgrade to the terms of his existing deal.

  7. Cody Fajardo has no trade value. Other teams know the Als will either restructure his deal so the team can keep Davis Alexander as well or release Fajardo outright if he declines and then promote the less expensive Alexander to #1.

  8. Toronto seems to have no/minimal issues with Chad Kelly. He plays recklessly though so him getting a concussion or sustaining a major injury on a football play is not surprising.

  9. No matter what happens in the Grey Cup, Zach Collaros is returning in 2025 in Winnipeg. Winnipeg is hosting the Grey Cup in 2025, and Collaros wants the win the Grey Cup then. Plus, about half of his $600,000 is guaranteed next year. To collect the $300,000, all he has to do is not retire.

  10. Ottawa probably sticks with Dru Brown because they cannot acquire anybody better than him.

You would think TOR would want VAjr
He would be the polar opposite of Kelly
VAjr is the ultimate Team guy, Humble, squeaky clean
and
Zero baggage

Kelly has none of those qualities

They have no desire to replace him

True dat - but there’s no way Doman wants a guy like Kelly anywhere near his organization.
Once Doman decides between Rourke and VAJ (I’m leaning towards Rourke but nothing is 100%) the casted off guy will be worth a bit in first negotiating rights, perhaps a draft pick and a hog, who knows?
Toronto would be stupid to not snap up VAJ (or Rourke for that matter) if either came up.
Arbuckle is a serviceable back-up and Dukes appears to have a future in the league. As for Kelly? Can u spell N.O.M.A.D?

Very few squeaky clean organizations in pro sports. Winning always trumps character. Sometimes winning comes loaded with character, the odd time - NOT.
Toronto and its ownership is consumed by winning so thats why Chad still has a place to play.
btw - in this here league, I’d say Winnipeg would be the one destination where Chad would definitely not be welcome. Maybe BC?

Problem is - they want that pre-snap read, short drop ball out, yak yards offence Bo used to run, and they haven’t found the guy to run it.

VA isn’t that guy either. Riderville would be a better fit…and despite wanting to play longer that bone break from last year may help make Harris’s decision as arthritis usually follows quickly after that injury.

More than a QB Stamps need a solid running back that can put them at least in 2nd and short a lot more often.

No, not in sask. They would run him out of town here so fast your head would spin around wondering where he went, ha

Nah. I don’t think the riders want adams, he was here before, I can see it now, it would be another Cody situation, riders are better off to develope their own guy, or bring someone different in,
