Wow!! Something that finally makes sense from the CFL. At least it would be fair to every team in the league, unlike the brutal screw around the Tiger-Cats suffered at the hands of the schedule maker this year regarding their bye weeks.
it's a Neat Idea... I like it
I think they should just give each team one bye, either in August or September. That way everyone gets it around the middle of the season and nobody can complain.
I'll even schedule it for two teams right now.
Montreal and BC get their bye the weekend after Labour Day, while all the rest of the teams are playing their "Labour Day rematches".
Two more teams get their bye the next week.
The other teams get theirs during the last two weeks of August.
Wait, that'll never happen. It makes too much sense.
JFL: That actually does make a lot of sense.
But if they do go with the common bye week, I would suggest one requirement. Every team gets a home game either the week before or the week after. Otherwise, you would have a situation where a team goes 4 weeks without a home game right in the middle of the season. Not great for marketing.
I think a dual bye week approach is better than a complete shutdown – I wouldn’t offer a stab at trying to figure out the logistics of it, but having one division get a bye followed by the other soon therafter might be a way to go about it.
The divisional bye week order could be rotated season to season.
The advantage to this is that no divisional rival would get an (additional) advantage as happened this year with the Cats having two byes in October.
The CFL scheduling is bizarre enough as is without logic coming into it. Thanks to the effort to resist that truth through this thread!
Oski Wee Wee,
Dumbest thing I've EVER heard.
(1) Football is primary played once a week (over a 2/3 days span). Keeping it off TV before your 2ND biggest weekend (Labour Day) would silence any hype from the previous week.
(2) The NFL hype machine is in FULL FORCE at that type. Losing CFL exposure over that time would hurt. (Out of sight, out of mind).
(3) They only have 8 teams, if they can't figure out how to balance the schedule, they should be in the business of making a schedule.
(I realize not every team in the CFL can pick all thier home games, but having the Ti-Cats how thier 2 bye weeks at the end of the season was the WORSE scheduling on the face of the Universe...and I'm NOT a TI-CAT fan).
I'll make it easy for the CFL schedule "makers".
WEEK 11 (AFTER THE LABOUR DAY BACK-TO-BACKS)
WEEK 12
Reason I put the WEST with the later BYE-WEEK is because they travel schedule for them is tougher due to geographical reasons.
