I agree.
And Dupsdell.
How do you know the CFL was getting 80,000 viewers a game when TV ratings were hardly ever published in the 90's?
I thought that the agreement(option year contract) with the CFL and NFL was to run out this year or last year. Why should we even think of re-newing it.
The agreement with the NFL ran out in 2008. The option year window is apparently in the CBA so unless the players agree to remove it in the new deal being negotiated it will remain.
Geo365.
I agree with not signing these guys who admit they’re only coming to the CFL to get back to the NFL.
These guys usually think they’ll come up here, dominate, then go back to the NFL.
Like a Doug Flutie type story.
But it rarely works that way.
Argos had a few guys they brought in late this year who boasted they would dominate for a year then go back to the NFL.
Thing is once these guys find out how tough it is to dominate this league, or even be any good, its too late for them
Becuase they don’t want to have to work hard to prove themselves.
Gimme a guy who says he’s gonna work his butt off to make the team better any day over some superstar in his own mind who acts like the CFL is beneath him.
Because it always works out that these guys end up being beneath the CFL.
Both the CFL feeds the NFL and the NFL feeds the CFL, just the way it is and always will be but the NFL is much more a farm league to the CFL than the other way around because of numbers. Not a difficult concept fellas, correct?
How many of you want a 100 percent Canadian player CFL? None of you I bet...
It IS called the Canadian Football League no? 100% Canadian content would be nice considering they don’t need the nfl anyway.
I would be sadly disappointed if the CFL became 100% Canadian, or made the ratio significantly more Canadian than present (other than maybe 1 Canadian QB per team). Canadians playing against Americans only raises the quality of play and reputation of the league. We should work more on ensuring that all NIs in the league are top quality under the current ratio. That’s why I’m open to some form of import-to-NI allowance for players that have resided in Canada year-round for 3/4+ years.
There are many perspectives on this issue.
A 100% Canadian CFL would still be a very good product, but the CFL would have to invest in the feeder system heavily to have a large enough pool of players , IMO the Current # of imports could gradually be reduced to keep the level of play where it is now, the Canadian players are good just not enough in numbers .IMHO Canadian,s go to CFL games to support their team,s more so than going to see American star players, that is what the NFL is for.Again IMHO
Martell Mallett has been signed by the Philadelphia Eagles.

Time for Jamall Lee to come in as the Lions starter
Yup, it's starting to look like it could be Jamall Lee in BC backfield with Andrew Harris backing him up. Harris was our Territorial Exemption that Wally wanted to convert to safety. He's been playing in the CJFL on Vancouver Island where it was a case of man against boys. He once had 370 yards rushing against the Saskatoon Hilltops. IIRC, they had to pull him from some games last year as he was just too dominant.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbOsSNFwjqkI would also welcome a 100% Canadian CFL.
This is a joke we are becoming a farm league. Does not wally see what is happening here? he should be going to the CFL commishiner about this, and he should be going to the nfl comish about this, we have lost 3 excellent players, how are we going to promote our team, with this happing, oh well typical CFL they just let it happen. unril it is to late, like i said before bob ackles
should be rolling over in his grave seeing this happen.
im suprised he went to the eagles seeing as he would be like fourth on the chart to start... or practice
I'm onside with those who think these special clauses should go. We can't have too much turnover. I'm okay with a standard option year but a 3 year contract should mean 2 and an option not a year, rookie clause, another year and an option.
Here’s a good read on why CFL players are attracting so much NFL interest.

Good article!
Hey Guys, I got a secret to tell you.
This doesn't just happen in Football. Just go ask Sales Reps.
Back in the seventies, I trained with this MFG company for 5 years. Their pay wasn't the best in the industry, but I hit my bonus's. I got offered a better paying job with a competitor. Practically double the salary. Went to the boss to see if he could match which he couldn't, so, gave my two weeks notice. But since I was going to a competitor, I was "Released" from employment right away. Started the new job the next day.
Not that much different. These players get a chance to make 3 and 4 times the amount of money. Yes, my team has been probably the one hit hardest the most. It just means you have to have a solid management team in place to find those good players in college.
this league is heading down hill in a hurry, i know so many bc fans out here that are on the fence of buying season tickets because of what is going on in the cfl, they do not care that they are going to play outside this year they care about losing players like grice mullin, Mallet and others, that will sell tickets, i predict that if there is not a change in this aggrement this june then you are going to see this league so waterd down that nobody is going to watch or go to games by the end of this year. So hope and pray this ends soon or i predict we are going to see the CFL back were it was in the mid 90’s by next year with all half empty stadiums even more.
Wake up Cohon do something about this. ( Bob Ackles if he was still alive would have done someting about this already)
No, the reason Season tickets is down is because of the venue. My son’s company has reduced their season tickets purchased for this year by more than half. Whats it been doing in the Lower mainland for the last 8 weeks? Rain, rain, rain. Who wants to entertain customers in a cold windy October Empire Stadium? They will renew their season ticket base back up to 2009 levels for the 2011 season when they are back in the comfortable confines of BC Place.
And before the Prairee people start responding about being poor fans, I sat at Commonwealth Stadium a couple of years ago in October when it was minus 10 degrees. SITTING IN MINUS 10 IN ALBERTA IS A WHOLE LOT WARMER THAN SITTING AT PLUS 5 ON A RAINY, WINDY DAY IN VANCOUVER!
....sport...you're getting soft.....wasn't it great back in the day at the 'old' Empire Stad., ....especially trying to watch the action from behind those wonderful pillars.......I agree with your statement on the season tix....There's just not the capacity and people do like to keep warm now-a-days.....softies....
that was a great read about the CFL players heading south in the option year and such. i have one question i cant find the answer to: the NFL will most likely strike in 2011. so if a plyer has a signed contract in the NFL during that time, does that make him inelegible to come back to the CFL for that season? i think its good pr for the league to have players going down south. like the article stated, it makes it more attractive for more players. it hurts though, the stamps have lost one non import, and possible two now. its odd to see more canadians playing down south. Growing up, playing ball as a kid, it was to win the grey cup... not play in the states. i guess as pros get older, the money is more then the dream.
