CFL reduces training camp roster sizes

This year the CFL reduced the training camp roster size from 75 to 68.
That means 7 fewer spots for unsigned free agents.

These spots were important to give CIS grads with no eligibility left a shot to make the CFL.
This includes players who just finished their 5th year.

Now, with the reduced size, these graduated players will not be seen.

Is this a good thing considering the CFL is planning expansions in the near future?

The Lions have 81 players invited to training camp so far. I know draft picks and junior players are exempt from training camp roster restrictions...not sure about CIS free agents?

I don't understand this at all. Who cares how many players teams choose to evaluate at their training camps? For sure this reduces opportunities for free agents but it might also affect guys at the end of their carreer.

When was this decision made, hopefuly before teams went out and signed all invited all these guys.

CIS players with eligibility remaining do not count towards the totals.

I know three players who have been affected by this new CFL policy.

They have been told there is no room for them, otherwise they would have been invited to camp........ :frowning:

Probably a cost savings for each team.
