CFL Officiating

Thanks for the insight Grover.Yes being an official can be a tough job,to me it seems it takes a certain type of person to make
as many correct calls as you can and in particular critical calls as a games end result sometimes depends on calls made or not made but the it's the same in jobs we do in the work force,no bonus for or extras for us or even just fired for screwing up.So I would say if you can't ref a football game to a reasonable standard then its time for a career change.

On the subjject of CFL Officials, isn't this interesting -- this guy:

I'm not always a hater of the officials, but last nights game against the Peg had some brutal officiating. The phantom offside call on the peg punt deep in their zone; ball goes back to the peg, drive continues. The same drive a very questionable call of interference on Lawrence when the Bummers should have been punting; first down peg, drive continues. Even that absolutely terrible call of roughing the passer when Hank got bumped by Mainor (I think); turns third down into first down, drive continues. I love the CFL and I have great respect for the officials of all sports, but the past few years it has been difficult to watch some of the games due to the officiating.

I've been a defender of the officials on this post because I believe they have a difficult job to do and for the most part are correct in their calls. BUT.....last night's performance by them was horrible...many missed calls and many phantom calls.

Just plain bad for both teams....

re the roughing the passer (Burris) call.

I think those calls need to be made.

Even thought it wasn't a helmet-to-helmet hit or a vicious tackle well after the pass, Burris was shoved well after he released the ball. The Bomber could have easily held up.

All it takes is an awkward fall to injure a wrist, arm, shoulder, clavicle, knee, hip, etc.

Sometimes the innocent looking plays can cause a lot of damage.

Over the years there have often been complaints here about bad calls against the TCs by CFL officials, Here's a look at the other side -- what would have been a good call (not for the Cats, but for proper application of the rules) that was somehow missed, with an official right on the spot. Look for Bakari Grant's block on Jovon Johnson during our most talked about scoring play yesterday:

Does look like a pretty obvious block from behind, doesn’t it?

It may have been an illegal block
But Winnipeg had,
1.- Too many Men on the field
2.- Were offside
3.- Pass interference
4.- Face Masking :cowboy:

Grover:
Are you saying that WPG committed all of those violations on that same play? Or, each, separately on various plays that you took note of throughout the game?
