1987 Eastern final,Argos at Bombers, watched on tv from Ajax Ont.Season ticket holders, Lifelong Argo fans, dad was not well enough to travel, older brother and I met the Argos at Pearson airport after Argos 19-3 victory. We had Argo flag,Argo helmets, football, throwing football around airport with cops. Every Argo signed my football including Coach OB and current Commish Randy Ambrosie. The others waiting were families and friends of team, they thanked us for coming . We made front page of Toronto Sun,top right,We still in 2023 have Argo season tickets in family . Saw Randy O at Argo game,he remembered because was biggest game of his career at that point
thanks for posting that memory. very cool.
not the Eastern Semi but this is the 1987 Grey Cup game between Argos and Eskimos on CFL on demand.
That’s a great memory. The final game for 1987 Schenley MOP winner Tom Clements. Also it was the final game on natural turf at Winnipeg Stadium. They switched to astro-turf in 1988. Here’s an ESPN Classic version of the '87 East Final:
I can’t say I remember this clearly, but it’s a cool old play from the 90s. Even John Wells seemed half awake for it.
I wasn’t paying attention to the CFL when this happened but I’m sure someone remembers it
The fastest I ever heard a stadium go silent - I can’t remember the Riders receiver’s name, but by the time the long pass down the sidelines got to him Joe Holiman had him lined up and timed up the shoulder between the shoulder blades of the receiver perfectly- separating him from the ball.
As Holiman jogged back to the bench the guy he hit starts doing the funky chicken in the grass…cheering to total silence instantly, medical staff from both sides runs out to him. Apparently he swallowed his tongue…
That was the last game at Commonwealth without an ambulance on station for the game.
One of my favourite places in TO, great atmosphere haha.
I think a lot of others also weren’t paying attention to the CFL when this was happening.
