Curious on the interest to play the forum 2019 football picks.
I always enjoy this “event” in the forum.
Quite interested Abendchan and would appreciate your involvement, again.
Richard
I’ve been looking forward to it since the end of last season, and this will be my first time participating.
Count me in. Thanks for asking.
Me too, looking forward to it.
Ditto for me.
I’m in!
The changes in free agency has made it hard to predict winners at this stage and it will be one that develops through the season.
Abendschan might be busy with other things, but why not post our picks here anyhow.
Here are mine for week 1:
Saskatchewan at Hamilton
Montreal at Edmonton
Ottawa at Calgary
Winnipeg at BC
Hamilton
Edmonton
Calgary
Winnipeg
Week 1:
Two tough picks and two easier ones. Always lots of question marks in Week 1 but a couple of these games are just impossible to get a finger on.

Hamilton over Sask - Very interested to see how this one turns out. I’ll take the Tabbies at home.
Edmonton over Montreal - In a slaughter. Don’t let the children watch. Too much gore.
Calgary over Ottawa - Stamps too powerful for Ottawa and the Redblacks never play well in Cowtown.
BC over Winnipeg - Huge divisional game. Really don’t know how this will go. I suppose that I’m banking on Reilly.
Four home teams.
Home town sweep to start the season .

Week # 1 Picks for 2019;
Saskatchewan vs Hamilton - Hamilton - The Riders should have a FIERCE defense. If you look at last year's performance, the majority of their wins came when the Defense or special teams scored points. Their Offense was Offensive - Specifically their O-line and I see no evidence that this has changed over the offseason. You can not win without an offensive line. Offense requires time to set up and when the offensive line resembles a sieve, you have NO TIME to set up offensive plays. Hamilton has remained relatively steady on both sides of the ball. I have got to go with ... Hamilton by 7.
Montreal vs Edmonton - Edmonton - Montreal has reached dumpster fire status. With all the chaos surrounding the team (I am amazed that it is even more than the JM circus), the team has GOT to be distracted. Edmonton and Montreal are both still having to jell as a team, but I think Edmonton is a better atmosphere to make this happen AND they have more pieces from the previous season ... Edmonton by 21.
Ottawa vs Calgary - Calgary - I know, I know ... homer pick. Let's look at it though. Ottawa has a unknown at QB (not unknown in the league, but untested might be a better description). Ottawa has had just about as many players turn over as Calgary had in the off season, but most of theirs were on the Offensive side of the ball. Calgary had major turn over during the off season on the Defensive side of the ball, all the way up to and including our DC ... BUT most of the defensive players that are slated to be our starters this season played last year as well (what was our defense like last year ... I forget). Don't forget that our new DC has been in the organization for 15 years (if my memory serves me well) and was probably ready/due for a promotion a few years ago (think about how many years Dave Dickenson was waiting in the wings for his chance to be our HC). With a new DC there is a new defensive strategy and some of the players we "lost" might have been going anyway either due to philosophical changes on defense OR Salary implications. In short ... Calgary by 21.
Winnipeg vs BC - Winnipeg - I think this is the "tough call" game of the week, but when I look at the teams, I think Winnipeg has the advantage. BC has a new HC, QB and supporting cast ... that's a lot of team to jell together and I expect BC to get better as the year goes on. This is early season though and I don't think everything is totally smoothed out yet. Winnipeg is one of the least changed teams over the off season, with only a few new pieces to add to the mix. Winnipeg was in the running last year and I think they have an advantage to start this season ... Winnipeg by 14.
Thanks for running this again this year. Good luck to all my fellow competitors, I really enjoy reading your analysis of the teams and what you think are the likely outcomes and why those outcomes will come to pass.
