When you say back up do you means I can pick any reciever to replace that reciever or do I pick the player that replaced the injured player.
Example if I pick AC and he gets hurt, can I then pick RR or do I get Carter who actually replaces AC?
Well, my idea of a backup, which may or may not be the best way to do it, would look like this:
A PARTICIPANT's YEARLY PICKS:
QB: Dave Dickenson
QB: Kerry Joseph
Backup QB: Anthony Calvillo
HB: Josh Ranek
HB: Troy Davis
Backup HB : Antonio Warren
WR/SB: Jeremaine Copeland
WR/SB: Milt Stegall
Backup WR/SB: Jason Tucker
And so on.
So the week Josh Ranek has a bye, you get Warren's points in stead. The following week, it's back to Ranek and Warren is out (unless Davis has his bye week).
AND
If Dave Dickenson gets injured, Anthony Calvillo plays for your team until Dickenson is back. If both your QBs are injured, you only get Calvillo's points, as you have only one backup.
AND
Your backup can't be in your lineup if both your starters are healthy and their team plays. So you can't "dress" Calvillo if he plays against a weak defensive opponent. If Dickenson and Joseph play, they are your men.
I figured that was want you ment. What do you think of your pick being replaced by the players who takes his position on the field?
I think it will be a nightmare for the guy tallying points. It is easy to notice who replaces the QB, but it wont be for every position. Say you have Ben Cahoon on your team. He gets injured. The following week, Dave Stala moves to Cahoon spot, and Sylvain Girard gets in the starting lineup in Stala's stead.
Who is you guy now? The one who has Cahoon's spot or the one who got a spot in the starting lineup BECAUSE of Cahoon's injury? And sometimes, team may bench/dress guys for different resons, so if two new receivers are on the starting lineup that week, who's your?
I wouldn't want to be the point keeper in such a system.
I like Third's idea for a back-up...except I'd like it better if you had 3 players per position for the entire season, and you have to pick 2 each week....no trades for the entire season
I agree with eskimos32001 and third. That is a great idea. You can still select your players but only from you list. I would take this one step further and say at midseason each fantasy player be allowed to drop a maximum of 4 players (maximum of one per position) and pick-up 4 different players. This would help with injuries and also allow fantasy players to gauge which players will step it up in the second half of the season.
I like it Eskimos32001. Three guys per position, bench the one you don't want for that week. And cry out loud when you see your benched guy racks more points than the two you dressed. lol!
That's an interesting thought!
I will abide by the majority but if I had my way it would be 10 players 1 or 2 trades at the season half and if someone get injured too bad.
.....I like the idea as well, keeps the continuity of a dream team while giving each participant a safety cushion.......here's another idea: what about adding a wildcard player that does nothing unless he is arrested or charged with a criminal offense during the season, then you win the entire game automatically?......(downfall: everyone picks Ricky Williams).....
Had that rule been in place last season, the "go to" guy in that category would've been that Riders player who got busted for not reporting he was HIV positive before he went boneing away.
Maybe we can have a category for longest helmet throw into the stands!
R&W, we added something like that this year in our hockey pool. Each participant had eight forwards, three defencemen, two goalies and one enforcer. The enforcer could be a guy plyaing any position, but he was only giving you points for the penalty minutes he racked.
It turned out to mess the pool, because this was a fairly clean year as far as penalties go. With the new rules and stuff. Sean Avery was the only enforcer to "perform his duty". He racked about 100 points more than any other enforcer. And the guy who had him won the pool by a few points.
So everybody was pissed at the idea to add the enforcer to the game.
Even better.. since this is a fantasy league based on the CFL message board, have a tie-breaking prediction question based on the number of messages there'll be with saskargo bashing the Riders, Stamps, or any other team the Argos will be facing that week.
.....I've used it in hockey pools before as well and I agree it is more of an influence there than any other sport......it is a dead issue in golf pools........for this pool it would be fairly much a non-issue.........you could alter it to be fines levied by the league.......
Another nightmare for the guy tallying the points...
Or major fouls by a player. I pick Mark Word.
.....or faked injuries by a player. I pick Mike Maurer........
The Grey Cup Pseudo-Most Outstanding Canadian?..
…I forgot that one…oh the humanity…
I can think of so many non-imports on both teams who'd have deserve that title more than that UFC failure.
Cahoon: 10 receptions, 102 yards.
Stala: Amazing TD catch in the back of the endzone in overtime.
Lapointe: Two rushing TDs to bring the Als back in the game and take the lead.
Flemming: Consistent. Nailed the game winning FG in overtime.
Proulx: Played two jobs all night long: his and Malveaux's.
Etc...
