VAJās assault on the Kevin Glenn cross country every team record is now sitting at 5 teams . Only 4 more teams (Toronto , Ottawa , Winnipeg , Edmonton) to go and he ties Glenn for the coveted CFL Suitcase award .
If Fajardo is going to be back-up anyways, making back-up money, why not just stay in Montreal and make back-up money with incentives built in.
I know itās easy for me to say. Iām sure it would be a tough pill to swallow, but what are the alternatives?
Realistically there are no starting jobs available anymore with VA going to Calgary. Unless being a back-up to a 39, 37 or 35 year old QB has more potential than backing up a 26 year old.
I might have just answered my own question.
Not sure. Chances of a 26 year old flaming out may be higher than a veteran
Usually the veterans end up starting. BC ultimately landed on Adams last year. Hamilton with Bo. Edmonton with MBT. Montreal with Fajardo. Harris still starts as does Collaros.
Every year there are shiny new up and comers, but the veteran ends up starting come playoffs.
Wally started Dickenson over Printers in the Grey Cup even when Printers was MVP.
Wally was right.
Give me the veteran.
He lost that game, though.
Hahaha. Oh well, Dickenson was still better!
Occams Razor: MTL brain trust thinks Fajardo is the inferior QB with a limited upside to build a team around.
I think Edmonton is still unclear, no? Theyāve said nice things about Ford, but heās not under contract. Since Ford doesnāt have any other starting options Iād think Edmonton can get him for slightly more than backup money. Iād have to believe theyāll want a vet with him whether thatās Fajardo, MBT, or someone else.
Saskatchewan hasnāt closed the door to the possibility of it being someone other than Harris, although a Fajardo return seems unlikely there.
I predict Fajardo to Edmonton or Winnipeg.
If Ford is given a new starter contract by the Elks, I think MBT will be released and retire.
Winnipeg needs a reliable vetran back-up.
If they had one already, like Toronto did, they might have won the cup.
In my mind Edmonton with Fajardo at $250k and Ford at $120k with both having a 51% of snaps incentive of $7,500 a game makes perfect sense. Assuming one of the two of them gets 51% of each game then their top 2 QBs will cost a total of $505,000 ($250,000 + $120,000 + 18 games at $7,500). Maybe thereās another $50,000 incentive if either one of the starts and plays 51% of the snaps in 14+ games or something like that.
For 120k plus incentives, then the Cats should make a run for Ford.
My guess is Ford gets a similar contract to Alexander in Montreal or Brown in Ottawa, 350k plus incentives for 2025.
I donāt think anyone touches those numbers for a guy that plays schoolyard ball and hasnāt been able to stay healthy.
The reason I think my suggestion works in Edmonton as opposed to Hamilton is the realistic chance to start there, and the upside that gets him over $200k if he does and plays well. And if he does play a full season and has success heāll get starters money after that. I canāt see it happening yet.
I canāt argue with the health part.
I do think , this year, he won most games he started and the fans seemed to get excited for the team again once he was in.
120k seems low to me either way.
How about 250k with incentives?
Ha! I donāt think we get to decide this one.
How about we set the base salary over under at $250k and bet a stadium popcorn on it? Iāll take the under, you get the over. If it lands right on $250k we both buy a popcorn for the next person to post in this thread, because what are the odds?
Mark Killam to coach the Elks.
About time - heās certainly put in the time and work.
What a difference a month makes for Kilam ā released as assistant HC on October 30th and hired, with a 3-year contract, as the main man of the rival team, 300 kms. up the QEIIH, on November 30th. Thatās a great CFL story!
Iām wondering if EDM is still paying Chris Jones until the end of the calendar year?
Would Jones still want to be our DC this upcoming season?
Would our new GM want Chris Jones as DC?
My bet is that there was a handshake deal in place the day Chris Jones agreed to come to Hamilton. As soon as Mark Washington comes off the books, Chris Jones comes on the payroll.
I donāt think the GM will be a factor in that. Typically a GM picks his Head Coach and the Head Coach picks his staff. Obviously, as was the case with Milo inheriting Washington, the new Head Coach has to work within existing contract constraints.
