Roughriders blocked in acquiring Greg Hardy’s CFL rights

[b]- Greg Hardy does not yet have a NFL home, and for now his status in the Canadian Football League remains unclear.

Sportsnet has learned that the CFL has blocked the Saskatchewan Roughriders from adding Greg Hardy to the team’s exclusive negotiation list. Sources indicated the league office is now deciding whether or not to allow the Riders to obtain the rights to the former Pro Bowl defensive end.
Hardy is a free agent who, after fulfilling a four-game NFL suspension, played most of the 2015 season with the Dallas Cowboys.

While adding Hardy to a CFL negotiation list would not mean the player would sign a contract in Canada, that the league office has blocked him is significant. The CFL prevented teams from adding Ray Rice in 2014, but Rice has not played a professional game since he was charged with assault in a domestic violence incident (the charge was eventually thrown out). Hardy has.

When asked specifically about the Riders attempting to add Hardy to their negotiation list, and the league halting it, CFL spokesman Paulo Senra said: “We don’t have any comment.?

Even with a league-wide domestic violence policy, the CFL has permitted Justin Cox to sign, and play, in Saskatchewan, where he is now a starting defensive back with the Roughriders. Just last July, he was arrested for aggravated domestic violence, burglary of a residence and trespassing. Only nine months prior, he had been charged with burglary and aggravated domestic violence in a separate incident.

Back in 2014, Hardy was charged and found guilty of assaulting a female, ex-girlfriend Nicole Holder, and communicating threats. The victim claimed the six-foot-five, 280-lb. lineman threw her in the bathtub, then dragged her into a bedroom, choked her and tossed her onto a couch covered with guns before threatening to kill her.

Sources say the Riders are waiting to hear from the league with regards to Hardy.[/b]

Riders should have no interest in Greg Hardy

[b]On Tuesday, Sportsnet’s Arash Madani and Justin Dunk (who also works for 3DownNation) reported that the league has at least temporarily blocked the Riders from adding troubled defensive end Greg Hardy to their negotiation list. According to sources cited in the article, the league is still deciding whether to allow Hardy to be added to the Riders neg-list or not. The league should do the team a favour and just keep a player like Hardy out.

There’s no doubt that Hardy is one of the most talented pass rushers in football right now, however, off the field he’s a serious problem. There’s the obvious reasons why Hardy’s character should be questioned, like his domestic abuse and other legal issues outlined in this story from Deadspin in 2015. Since this incident, Hardy has not only shown no remorse, he continues to believe he’s innocent even though all of the evidence suggests otherwise. Even Ray Rice, who was also involved in a domestic violence case after video surfaced of him dragging his fiance out of an elevator has shown some degree of remorse by offering to donate his entire NFL salary to charity should someone give him another chance.

What does all of this have to do with winning football games? Well, technically nothing. Signing a guy like Hardy, if he ever actually considered signing in the CFL, would be a public relations nightmare for the team and league but based on his skill, the Riders would be better in the short term. In the long run, it would not be a good move as he’s been a headache for teams in the locker room as well. After his abuse charges,

Hardy signed with the Dallas Cowboys. It seemed like a perfect match with owner and general manager Jerry Jones and his history of taking on troubled players. Ultimately, Hardy only played 12 games, after serving his four game suspension for the Cowboys in 2015. Even Jerry Jones has had enough as he’s said Hardy won’t be back with the team next season. If someone like Jerry Jones doesn’t want Hardy around his team, why should anyone else?

While stuff does happen from time-to-time, and there is a time and place for a second chance, Hardy has already had his and has proven to not only have issues away from the stadium but in the room as well. The Riders would be smart to keep their distance.[/b]

If someone like Jerry Jones doesn’t want Hardy around his team, why should anyone else? While stuff does happen from time-to-time, and there is a time and place for a second chance, Hardy has already had his and has proven to not only have issues away from the stadium but in the room as well. No doubt the only NFL owner who manages to lower the bar more than Jerry Jones is none other than Dan "Dick" Snyder of the Washington Redskins even beyond his defence of that blatantly racist team name. :thdn:

And so if that loud-mouthed unscrupulous Texan Jerry Jones won’t put up with Hardy given his own openly soiled record, why in the world would or should the CFL at all?

I’m all good for second chances for most guys after any given period of time and after atonement has been made for any given past violent crime, but with Greg Hardy you have simply the wrong guy. :thdn:

In 2014 he earned as much as every single player in tbe CFL's eastern division, for playing one game.There is absolutely no way he would play in the CFL.

One point that needs to be made is that being added to a neg list does not require any permission or interaction with the player in question. So it is likely that he has no intent to come up here anyway.

“According to CJME’s Jamie Nye, Jones said the Riders tried to add Hardy after that call, the league blocked them back then, and there’s been nothing on that front since. That would suggest that either the Sportsnet report is wrong or Jones is lying, as Madani and Dunk’s piece is quite adamant this is currently going on.”

OT on Chris Jones and TSN puff pieces on coaches:
In admiring the Grey Cup win for the Eskimos, of course I had a positive impression of Chris Jones as a coach.

Then TSN and ESPN ran that awful piece about him back in his Tennessee town with that lame cornbread festival along with the Grey Cup present. YEEEEEEE-HAW!!! :roll: :thdn: :thdn: :thdn:

He does strike me as the sort of guy who would lie about this sort of thing and then go on gabbing about cornbread or something else perhaps with his mouth full too.

If you are going to do a puff piece on a coach TSN, do it right. Some coaches might not be worthy off the field of such coverage.

TSN and ESPN have a track record of terrible puff pieces like a few years ago in Calvillo’s last season with that bojack Dan guy in Montreal laughing it up for the maverick he was only to be gone for good in a matter of two weeks.

TSN has learned nothing in this regard as far as doing puff pieces on coaches off the field.

One could simply read the tail-end of Tangled’s link and realize that there was no neg list applied for on Hardy by Jones…per the CFL. They said he asked about it before the season. Sounds like they basically said they would need to review it and he moved on.

The CFL would have never finished their review because nothing was filed on him to be negged.

Anyone accused of a crime should not be able to seek or hold employment, especially if he's accused of physically abused a female, regardless if he is supporting a family or making support payments, he and his family should starve and be out on the streets. Even if he's later found innocent that doesn't matter. With his reputation nobody would touch him with a 10-foot pole. Just being accused is reason enough to blackball him for life.

Hard to believe a guy would be washed up at 27, but Greg Hardy is a shell of what he was in 2013.

The conviction of beating a woman is something the NFL could overlook if Hardy had any game - - as they did with Adrian Peterson beating a child.

But Hardy is a terrible teammate and he's always been a lazy player. When you couple that with a lack of production, of course no team wants the guy.

Unfortunately, someone in the CFL is stupid enough to think this assclown is anything other than a washed up has-been.
