CFL attendance - must make this longer LOL

Did a quick search and didn't see anything recent about this. Hubby and I watch the games at home, and with the exception of a couple of games, have often commented on how empty the stands look.

Is it our imaginations or is attendance low this season?

We rodents know much.

If you look closely some of the fans can be seen sitting closer to the action.

I've discovered that it's the best suit to wear for sneaking up on grass.

Would my grey hair that looks like it's been scattered by the wind look too out of place?

Low attendance! It’s unbelievable the lack of support from the CFL fans when your team is not winning.

Attendance is down from the previous season (2019 as the reference point)

Covid may have changed people's priorities in terms of where they spend their money, affordably obviously plays into the attendance along with stadium atmosphere could also be be factors as well.

Attendance is fine. Most fans are just buying drone seats now.

Haven’t seen any official figures but yes I believe attendance is not at its usual levels. I believe there are a few issues for this besides the on field performance by some teams.

  1. The current economic situation with just about everything rising has made a lot of people decide whether they can still afford to buy tickets to their favourite team.
  2. Coming out of COVID a lot of people just want to get out of town and enjoy a good vacation.
  3. Again dealing with COVID how many weddings were postponed and this is a catch-up year.

My own personal thought is I think June is to early to start the season it should be moved to July or better yet August. Football is a late summer/fall sport.

Give it time and those teams who promote properly will once again see more bums in the seats.

I'd rather see football start as soon as the snow has melted off the fields so we don't have to play the Grey Cup in December.

I guess you didn't enjoy the Snowdown in Steeltown classic in 1996?

Eddie Brown with his catch in stride and Gizmo Williams punt return in the snow (1996)

Or is it because they lost ?

I'm too young to remember. I'll have to look it up on YouTube or something. But I've watched my share of playoff games in Edmonton and Saskatchewan with snow on the field.

I like a July 1 start for symbolic reasons... Canada day and all. I have no problem with late November GC. But then, I like the cold.

snowy football is still football. some of the most exciting games i’ve seen have been in horrible weather.

I wouldn't mind starting around Victoria Day and then treating Canada Day kind of like Labour Day.
