CBC broadcasting was superior than tsn

I have been watching some outstanding videos (courtesy of CBCnews cfl show last night which set up the online site for archives) and I have to say what an amazing job CBC did.

The theme music (they had 5 of them) all of them except for the last 2-3 seasons were amazing. The late 80s/90s theme was one of the best theme songs in history.

The graphics/font/color scheme on CBC was by far the best. They were geniuses as they started that color scheme which CBS sports copies (which is fact from the show) The sports producer of CBC assisted CBS sports doing a company changeover in production in the late '90s.

It also appeared that the tv was bright/contrast and not a bold appearance like TSN did at the time and even today (though HD has changed quality)

I miss the CBC sports team. Well at least we got the olympics.

Disagree with the title of the thread.

Yeah and I could pick up all the games coming from Windsor into Michigan.

CBC was by far the best station for sports. Its proven record speaks for itself. To think canadians wouldn't have enjoyed HNIC/CFL if it wasn't for their production team.

Its funny ppl who diss them. but all they have to thanks is their passion for sports.

Olympic coverage is #1 in the world. Won award for that year in/out. Even americans preferred CBC coverage.

We are so lucky to have CBC but sadly companies like Rogers/Bell just ruin everything. Do i hate TSN? no. But always preferred CBC work and its not even close. NOT EVEN CLOSE. Even the sound is better on CBC than TSN. I was told cause they use different style of equipment due to a tech issue. That is why when you watch hockey on NBC it sounds a lot better than watching on Rogers garbage hockey broadcast.

When CBC did the games. It was by far the best quality you can get. When you watch NFL and College sports on CBS the sound is the best. However the last 2-3 yrs NBC/FOX has caught up cause ppl were complaining.

CBC = the best sports broadcasting canada will ever see.

Other than the fact that they blacked out every home game, which included blacking out Ticat games on the Toronto stations. And if a game was blacked out in Toronto, well no point in broadcasting it, right? What a great time to be a Ticats fan living in Ottawa. No interlocking games, so they only played in the east. And blacked out when they played at home, in Toronto, or in Ottawa. Basically got to see them play Montreal one or two times a year.

Yup. So much better then.

oh yeahhhhh. They sure proved there superiority with their totally pathetic pan am coverage.

The only thing superior about cbc cfl coverage was that they had Lancaster.

Stopspewinggarbage.

The Olympic coverage from London was excellent...............but it was CTV, TSN coverage NOT CBC

Blackouts would have been at the insistence of the league in order to increase attendance at home games, and there have been interlocking games since the early 1960s. CBC had a pretty good package when Don Chevrier and Ernie Afaganis were on board and didn't start to lag badly until later years.

Having said all that, though I have some complaints about TSN's productions, they put CBC in their back pocket.

haha. you like 15 yrs old? you dont recall the games on cbc then. yes the pan am coverage makes you decide if CFL coverage was good. lol

Olympic coverage on CBC is #1 in the world.

CBC did the last olympics. They also will be doing the olympics for the next 50 yrs thanks to the CFL commissioner. Orridge got CBC the rights back because CTV couldn't do as good of a job. Also CTV theme song was horrible.

Again CBC was the best and is the best.

It was horrible coverage, there was little or no promotion of the league.
On top of which, no pre game show during the regular season.

first off. they did a pregame show and they also did a post game show on saturday nights at times if games started early.

2nd. the promotions they did were 15x TSN. Remember it was done a long time ago so you cant compare the style of promoting programs different.y

And who really watches CFL pre-game shows. The only pre show worth watching if Hockey Night in Canada - which Rogers ruined. Its unwatchable.

CBC coverage of anything was the best. TSN for raptors, cfl is poor quality. Production done by amateurs like fsn1 in the states. They cant compete with CBS sports NBC Sports.

Mods, please do something about this troll.

Hometown blackouts, true. The lack of broadcasts of games played in the Toronto / Hamilton region to the rest of the country? That’s on the broadcasters.

Yes, please.

Hometown blackouts, true. The lack of broadcasts of games played in the Toronto / Hamilton region to the rest of the country? That's on the broadcasters.

Not sure what you're saying here. If you're saying that games in Toronto/Hamilton weren't shown nationally, that's untrue. If your point is that those games not being broadcast in southern Ontario was the fault of the CBC, well, yes and no. If Toronto's playing at home, then there's no game broadcast in the city, and no broadcast in Hamilton since there's no CBC (or CTV, for that matter) station there. If Hamilton's at home, there should however certainly be a broadcast in Toronto. It's a knotty problem since the two cities are so close together and there are a lack of broadcast outlets (other than CHCH, IIRC) in Hamilton. I don't suppose that CBC or CTV ever wanted to black out such a populous area as it would severely impact their advertising revenues, but their hands would have been tied by league policies and CRTC regulations.

do not try to make sense with these ppl. they do not understand anything. They just call ppl trolls when they do not understand. typical life style of true losers.

The government has stripped cbc of most of its funding. It doesnt bid on pro sports anymore. It cant compete in bidding wars and cant compete with tsns wall to wall coverage. Tsn has done so much for the league. And the production is very good. Cant believe ppl are complaining.

Be careful what you wish for. If tsn says screw the cfl then the league probably dies. Rogers isnt buying the rights. Cbc has NO money to bid on pro sports.

Nice to hear from you again STEVE ARMITAGE.
