Cauz: Which winless team has the best chance to win the Grey Cup?

If misery does indeed love company then right now the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Edmonton Elks are hanging out in a super crabby rec room wondering just what is going wrong with three franchises all with high expectations coming into the 2024 season.

Of course, this is not true. If White catches that pass, Hamilton has the ball, 2nd and 3 at their 37, with the game tied. In their other three possessions in the 4th quarter Hamilton:

  • from their 40, 5 yds and punt
  • from the SSK 52, 18 yds and FG
  • from their 40, 6 yds and punt

I think it’s a stretch to say they win the game with 2nd and 3 from their 37 with 33 seconds on the clock. Is it possible Hamilton scores before time expires? Of course. Is it possible the game goes to OT and Hamilton wins? Of course. But to say Hamilton wins for sure if White catches that pass is nonsense.

Edmonton plays Ott & Hamilton twice over the next 6 weeks so that will sort itself out. Bombers play SK, Tor & BC twice after next week’s tilt with Cal. Ham has BC, Tor, Edm, Mtl, Mtl over the next 5 weeks. The Elks have had the top teams 3 of the 1st 4 weeks so are running into a “soft” part of their schedule.

We will find out over the next month just who breaks away from the pack. IMO all 3 will be under .500 for awhile yet. :grinning: Somebody is going to have to get some upset wins in there somwhere.

Edmonton is extremely frustrating to watch, but on reflection, I think they are the best 0-4 team of the bunch. If they can just get out of their own bloody way and stop imploding with penalties and mental mistakes…
