Let’s get the obvious out of the way; 2023 has not been a great year for either the Saskatchewan Roughriders or the Calgary Stampeders.
Maier looked like a starting QB and team leader for most of last season when he had all the other starters on the field with him. He hasn’t had that luxury this year, and it has exposed the weakness in his game. So often this year, he has just looked lost and occasionally even confused during games and that is not lost on the Stampeder fans. Nothing against the guy personally, but he has performance issues that need to be resolved…and soon. As for the Riders (…eeesh), I think they are just a bad team that is poorly coached. I hope that they are not just sitting on their hands waiting for Trevor Harris to return, because that’s not the answer. The defence is cringe-worthy and the play calling is of mysterious origins at best. They will likely secure 3rd place and a playoff spot this week or the next, but I wouldn’t celebrate it too much if I was in their place…
