Day 11. I went to day 9 in the afternoon but it wasn't good as a fan. The units did a lot of work (DB's receivers), and a lot of time on special teams............uneventful.
This morning was good. Great battle between Swain and Schillens and Smith to play the slot opposite Getz. Eron Riley might be in the mix there as well but spent more time at WR (but Taj Smith was away in a Regina courtroom).
Heard on radio judge will try to decide today by 3pm if Dwight/Taj charges will proceed. The timing of this isn't great. Both guys missed yesterday and today sitting in court? They are vets and likely have their jobs locked up..........but I hope this goes away later today because media will be all over it.
Smith just looks really good. He's a nice find out of North Dakota. I swear that they took Dressler, modified him genetically to be younger, save some cap space money, renamed him, and he's back as #2. Wait and see for yourself..........quick, explosive and easily noticed because he goes fast all the time. He's a standout at practice.
Kilgore and Peters a lot of reps together. That might be the combo. Hurl saw a lot of time as well but Peters and Kilgore worked together today a lot with Weldon Brown. Morrty Ivy another MLB prospect spent time at DE........he's quick but lacks that size of a typical DE? But coach Chamblin loves to test guys out at different spots and versality is the key.
#14 continues to show great recovery and knocks down a lot of balls. But he has to recover because he is initially beat? Or balls are slightly underthrown.
Canadian receiver backups? So many non-import receivers. Thompson will go to CIS Rams I think. But you have McHenry, Sisco, Etienne, Alex Anthony..........two draft picks from round #2 and #4........I think there are 6-8. These are your successors to Bagg/Getz. Etienne actually looked good today. Wears #15 and caught some balls in traffic. He is not as meaty as some other guys so whether he can contribute on teams might be his downside.........but he looked good.
RB's is a mess.........your have 4-5. Nobody stands out. The new guy Allen Anthony #26 looks decent. I think he is top three but who knows. I think it is between 24 (Smith), 25 and 26 (Allen)? But who picks up the block well in the backfield? Who catches well? Who gets the yards..........that's your guy. Tosten is the tallest and is not as fluid and low to the ground as the other 4 guys?
Returners.......still a lot of options here. You'll see several guys returning, 5-6 different guys at least, maybe more? In the game can they produce and be a versatile guy playing in several spots? Weldon dropped a kickoff this morning. Just goes to show they are using every available option back there to see what they have, who can do multiple jobs????
D-line and O-line........nothing today. Not a banging practice. No shoulder pads today. Oline is intact and Picard will keep his spot. Watman will be #6 and learn. D-line.........who plays in the middle with T. George???????
QB - Its a toss between Weber and Doege. Weber just look ackward to me? It is easy to tell #4 and #8 have experience. It is easy to see #5 and #7 are like deer in the headlight???? Who knows??? Cortez knows!!!!!
The trucks are being loaded as well. Light walkthrough later today and Friday am. All the gear is going home today. Back to home base. I would have like to attend a few more sessions but I managed to attend 3. Good luck to the players Saturday against Henry Burris! Then on Sunday 10-11 cuts unfortunately.
