Calgary/Montreal Game

Good game Stamps. Walking into McGill and dishing them their "3rd in a row". Can't wait to see the matchup against the Lions.

well...I guess this shoots the power rankings all to hell.

While I am not a fan of showboating in general especially from the Stumps receivers , I must admit that was funny… and at least it was not disrespectfull… like ther down for the count taunt against the Riders…and the handcuff incident last year.

We came, we saw, we kicked their ass.

Bring on the next victim.

....What i seen from the Stamps.....was trickery....and bobsledding (i kind of chuckled about that one)...Congrats to the Stamps....they took apart a real good football team...Als. look very beatable now....i think the 'don' is going to start some extra workouts.....and whats with Calvillo...anyway.... 'good win red' ....

Well, I think that razzle-dazzle plays should be more the norm for every teams playbook, the Stamps really took control of this game with this game plan and their total overall execution. Shutting down Edwards big-time was also crucial.

Don Matthews/Kevin Strasser have to strip Calvillo of his playcalling discretion. He simply does not know how to establish balance on offence. The pass/run ratio for the Als’ offence last night was 37 passes/13 rushes. There’s no reason why a powerhouse back like Robert Edwards should be getting only 8 carries. This was why the time of possession was so lopsided in favour of the Stamps. Calvillo’s playcalling predictability also explains how the Als had to settle for 5 FGs in Calgary territory.

Re: the gadget plays. What an amazing set of calls against a defence with players like Duane Butler and D.D. Acholonu, who have absolutely no idea what containment means and basically play out of position almost every down.

As much pain as it caused to see Montreal manhandled at home, the really frustrating thing for me as an Als fan was watching the team make the same mistakes over and over. If players aren't respecting containment after one gadget play, they should be taken out of the game.

Calgary did a fine job of noticing tendencies and exploiting them. I only hope the Don can reverse those tendencies.

As far as Calvillo goes, he's calling a decent game (even though it was obvious Edwards could have gotten yards on the perimeter of the Stamps D). Had he been more on target, yards and points were there for him.

He's just sailing balls at crucial times. Those high throws could be any number of things, but I have a feeling Calvillo's still struggling with how the new ball behaves. Overthrows typically happen when the QB's not stepping into his throws, and I didn't see that last night. I saw the ball sailing high and outside every time Calvillo tried to put a little extra on it.

Congrats to the Stamps for playing a complete game, even though it hurt to watch!

Man... what a freaky night.

PREGAME
It all started prior to the game. XGamer, MartyMix and I were supposed to meet at a bar for a few pre-game cold ones. Marty was late and XGamer and I never found one other. After about an hour of search and phone, we eventually met to the stadium. Too bad for the cold ones. But eh, at least there was a big game on.

THE GAME
So we get to the game and enjoy the nice weather. But then, that retard who sits next to me (not Marty... the guy on the other side of me :stuck_out_tongue:) gets to his seat. He usually makes a few retarded loud analysis through a game, but he generally do not disturb me too much (unless he comes with his Tiger Cats plush toy and argues with it all night long).

But last night... He was on fire. It was the festival of retardness.

He was dressed in Miami Dolphins colors, and apparently was on a MAJOR sugar buzz. Or was it cocaine? Or was lack of prescribed medication? It was ugly.

He kept talking all night long. Not even with breaks to breathe.

Sometimes, he was having conversations with himself, while leaning toward me so I would have the opportunity to join him... or to join "them"? He was asking questions and was answering to himself. like:

«Tell me, who's that number 30 who just made that nice kick return?... It's Diedrick. He's a new guy Jim Popp signed recently... Do you think he'll take Ezra Landry job?... No, but he's probably there because Eric Lapointe will retire...»

And so on. He would not stop explaining stuff to himself.

Some other times, he was talking to me directly. But about stuff I could just not know how to answer without telling him he's a moron. For instance, after Calvillo overthrew a receiver, he turns to me with his serious look:

«Do you think Calvillo should have thrown that ball less deeper?»

... ?!?... «No, you freakin' moron. I think it was the right play to make. Calvillo enjoys watching the ball bounce all alone down the field. That is why he overthrows his receivers.»

And then, there were these numerous moments of unexplainable comments. He was often clapping hands while saying softly «I am Dan Marino.... I am Dan Marino...»

Not to mention, he bahaved accordingly. I he was always jumping off his seat screaming "Yeaaaaaaaaah !" for no real reasons. There a penalty called against Calgary: "Yeaaaaaaaaah !". There's one against Montreal: "Yeaaaaaaaaah !". Calvillo completes a three yards pass on 2nd and 10: "Yeaaaaaaaaah !". We make an easy 15 yards field goal: "Yeaaaaaaaaah !". The ref signals the end of first quarter: "Yeaaaaaaaaah !"

Marty was laughing at me everytime I'd report his latest achievement.

Plus, there was that other retard, one that looked like a sea-monster with a cowboy hat. He would drop by Dan Marino's seat sometimes to ask illogical questions while spilling saliva. And Marino, in his generous nature, would "explain" the game to him.

Had that game gone in overtime, I think I would have eventually punched him in his Dan Marino face. Four quarters of that freak made me reach my limits of patience and tolerance.

As for the game itself, it fulfilled my expectations for about three quarters. As long as it was close, it was interesting. That last quarter was disappointing. But anyways, for a rare time, the Don was overcoached last night. I can't believe how often we've been caught off guard by trick plays. I thought:

«Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times, wake the fùck up Don Matthews!»

And everytime we were fooled by the Stamps, the retard would go : "Yeaaaaaaaaah !... I am Dan Marino..."

POSTGAME
When the clocked ticked to zero, I had a headache. Not really because of the game itself, but mostly because of my seat neighbour.

I got home and, not feeling like going to bed without having something to change my mind, I turned the TV on. There was a documentary on grown-up men dressing and acting like babies. Apparently there's a whole community of adults who want to be babies. Be fed. Be pampered. Wear diapers and stuff.

And I just couldn't believe my eyes... I really thought I already had reach my quota of retardness for one night... Just how much can you take of this...

I really enjoyed the game last night…watching from the confines of my livingroom! I can certainly understand your frustration…Imagine what a Ticat Fan feels right now though! ( Hi! KW ) :stuck_out_tongue:

edit: note*** Ticat Fans are not allowed to use the word SK or even to use the altered word "FK"… threads get locked and posts deleted!

.....heh heh heh....I see my plan of inserting 'Harold' next to you Third is working......oops, did I just type that out loud?....

....actually at the last home game here I had a similar moron sitting in the seat next to me that was so plastered drunk by the end I didn't think he'd be able to walk out of the stadium...it was more comincal though than the scary guy you are next to.....firstly he was rather short and had a mop head of curly brown hair so he very much ressembled a Hobbit...no matter what the play was he was constantly saying 'Ah geez man'.....whether it was good or bad for either the Als or the Stamps it was 'Ah geez man'....then he'd finish his beer and take his hairy hobbit feet down to the concession to get two more....

No kidding! I expect them to come back and be REAL FIESTY next game!

....listening to the radio on the way home before the game yesterday the FAN960 here was interviewing a Montreal Sports reporter (can't remember his name) and he watched Wednesday's walk-through practice by the Als.....he commented he had never seen such a tired bunch of guys in his life....and Don kept them on the field for almost three hours.....if this is the case, that might explain why the Als were so lifeless after the half, just plain tired....I doubt Don will run a tough practice at this point, the Als might simply need a rest.....

Well there is no two ways about it! Calgary had a “GAME PLAN” and did surprise the ALs right from the GET GO!

And to think…they did it several times!

Damn, it's one of the few games I've missed this year!

Maybe somebody you know taped it! Well worth the watch!

If Calvillo’s last pass attempt was not tipped and intercepted…it could have been an even more intersting!

AH I had to post something just to remind the Als fans! How you doing Ro! Still miffed at the loss!

Congrats Calgary! A helluva of a game! Poor Edmonton is coming to town and I don't even feel sorry for them! GO STAMPS GO!!!!

Credits to Calgary, they played well. Burris show us he have an arm, Reynolds the legs, and Copeland is THE show maker ! Even though it was against our team, he made us(me & wifey) laugh out loud with his bobsleigh "dance". He still got it
