Buy CFL, Buy Canadian!

Posting this here in hopes someone in CFL head office sees it.

There exists no better marketing opportunity for the CFL then right now.

The entire country is already bought into the ’ buy Canadian’ idea, so get out there and remind / tell them we have a 100% Canadian sports league they can support!

People are canceling USA vacations as well, so encourage people to plan domestic trips in Canada this summer, and maybe plan those trips around following their team’s road games!

And to complement this, I’m hoping to vacay in Canada this year.

Agree with this idea 100%

Timing is an important aspect of success. This could be a marketing bonanza.

One question though. I posed this to another poster in a tongue-in-cheek chat, but there are a lot of u.s. players, and quite frankly anything u.s. related is a hot potatoe right now. What suggestions are there to message tolerance to avoid player work hazards?

Oops, another question. Funds in cfl contracts will drop no doubt, our dollar is going to get shredded here shortly. At what level does a player say that’s not worth it anymore, I’ll stay home?

One way, dramatic no doubt. Every team drops their entire u.s. players roster, and you try to get imports in the next few weeks from Europe or central/South America and Asia to replace them yanks and you have this whacky 2025 season of misfit teams and maybe a Cinderella story?

I don’t think you have to worry about animosity to American players, the booing and hostility is aimmed squarely at MAGA, Trump and his puppet masters.

The finances I can’t speak too, but the CFL isn’t isolated in feeling an impact. It’ll be across the board in Canada. I do suppose if the CFL does see a patriotic increase in interest and ticket sales, they’ll help offset revenue lost due to tarrifs.

I think it would be even better if they could find enough other buyers so that we dont have to send anything to the US. Let them do without

I will join you. Hoping for games in Hamilton and Toronto.

Sure hope the CFL is buying Canadian also. Or any other country for that matter

A lower pay cheque is better than no pay cheque.

Most people in the CFL head office don’t actually know that the forum exists. It’s better to email them directly.

This could also be an opportunity to inject life into the global / cfl 2.0 initiative.

The league is in a weird tight rope right now with majority American players but playing the Canadian rules of the game

The lack of leadership in the league is probably why no one is jumping on this opportunity. We had since November to jump on this team Canada nonsense and they didnt

Welcome to the forum, but I have to disagree.

Losing the American players would turn the league into an amateur league and I predict at least half of fans, including myself, would no longer be interested in watching. That would spell doom for the entire league. If you want to watch amateur Canadian football we already have a university league.

What the Dear Leader of the US is doing has nothing to do with American football players, although some blame could be assigned to those that were stupid enough to vote for him. Otherwise escalating a trade war would be terrible for everyone. You are suggesting that all Americans working in Canada lose their jobs. That would breach all employment contracts for one and would affect even more Canadians working in the US who would surely lose their jobs in a retaliatory gesture.

While I am all for the theme of this thread in buying Canadian and do so whenever possible, there is no point in escalating a war we didn’t start and can’t win. If the tariffs carry on for a longer period of time it is the NHL that will suffer a lot more as they do all their business in $USD and the Canadian dollar is expected to plummet. Let’s not shoot ourselves in the foot.

If anyone here is not acquainted with me, I will give full disclosure that I am a U.S. citizen born to immigrants (mother was my only U.S. born ancestor) who is currently NOT proud to be an American. I hope you will take a case-by-case approach with U.S. players. For example, take Willie Jefferson. I understand that he and his family now live year-round in Winnipeg, and may well believe that the U.S. may no longer be a safe and comfortable home anymore.
I might be wrong about this, but I hope he would have a chance to show where his loyalties lie, and there may be others like him. On the other hand, some U.S. players may be full out MAGA and are dumb enough to say so. I would have no problem if you were to treat them accordingly. They are a guest in your country and should behave accordingly.
If any MAGgots do speak up, please report them here. I want to know who my friends (and ENEMIES) are.

I can’t quite put my finger on it, but there is extra buzz in the city for the upcoming season.
