I’m not insinuating anything. I’m saying it. LMAO I flatly don’t think Streveler is very good outside of his running / wildcat and short-yardage ability.
If you want to talk second-string QBs, I’d put Dukes, Patterson, Ford, and possibly even Crum ahead of Streveler as far as stepping into the starter role goes.
Well…what did you expect? The BB have kept moving companies in business, moving WPG. to and from the East division, so that kind of proximity to the Hamilton virus would eventually take it’s toll.
Sorry but I don’t do that, but have seen a lot of that on the Als forum. I don’t think any of those guys are even close. Dukes may be the next best but is maddeningly inconsistent. Paterson has barely played and he is now the next one? You guys didn’t keep him Montreal. A bad mistake you are saying? Troy Kopp looked even better with the same amount of experience. Ford can’t crack the lineup and obviously doesn’t have the confidence of his coaching staff. He looked underwhelming in a limited role this week and if there is any backup QB that can’t throw surely it is him, or maybe Evans. Crum had tons of starts last year and failed to impress except for some mad scrambling ability a la Streveler. It is obvious to me that Brown was the best back up last year, judging by his performance so far this year. Objectively to me Strevs is the best at present. If he plays more that may or may nor be confirmed, but certainly no other backup has consistently stood out. I say give him a chance.
Well JON, every bit of experience is helpful, and the grind of an NFL work-week is beneficial. But, I don’t think their game will help much in the CFL, although they are moving closer to our game now.
And, Strev. may be, arguably, the best back-up, but Shea may have something to say about that, as his star rises. However, what do you think would happen to the locker room if Zach is benched? Perhaps division, internal strife…not something conducive to winning. The only way to preclude all of that would be a sustained winning streak with Strev. And that won’t happen…the team is just not good enough to do that this year.
Hopefully we will see. Neither the naysayers or my optimistic view can be considered correct yet as we do not have enough data. Streveler is 1-0, hardly a large sample. Zach is 1-5 so I’m hoping they might change it up a bit.
I don’t see the locker room as a problem. More of a problem is O’Shea’s stubborness to make a change. I’m sure there are players in the locker room that would prefer to see Streveler right now. But it is the job of O’Shea to decide.
That is exactly my point. Some of the players would like to see Strev…others would not. That is a recipe for failure. Team chemistry is built around the leader…and, when the leader is rightfully, or wrongly, demoted: poof!
Maybe if it is allowed to percolate and bubble like is starting to happen in Edmonton. Zach has been to 4 straight Grey Cups and accordingly gets a much longer leash. It’s not even close to a problem yet. And besides, I don’t think it a stretch to say that the Bombers are well known for having the tightest locker room in the league.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again…this is a different team, we didn’t just all of a sudden get old.
We all knew 2022 was the Apex, we were firing on all cylinders and taking no prisoners.
Last year we saw signs of inconsistency and struggles, even in the final, and lost more of the core.
This year we’re further behind the 8 ball than we have been for a long time.
There are many different reasons for the record, but we have been right there in almost all of the losses, outside of week 1 vs Montreal - and reasons for that one have already been stated.
This is not a bad team, but this is not the team of 2019-2023. Those squads were disciplined. This squad keeps shooting themselves in the foot.
You are right, blue. That comes with turnover in personnel. It takes a long time for the new guys to figure out how to un-holster their weapons before firing. Before the season started, I said that the BB would be struggling to make the playoffs…and a couple of my buds said that I spent too much time in the sun down south over the winter. But, I am an old fart, who had “seen this movie” before, several times. Always the same ending!
Sorry to disagree but history isn’t on the side of your position. Collaros was a late addition to an already established team. The Bombers were built on strong O & D-lines complimented by a very effective linebacking corp.
If you can honestly say in the past 6 seasons YOUR prediction wre quite acurate… Then we will say good job you done good here.
More than likely though, as with most fans predictions of opposing teams downfalls your predictions in the off season of this happening was more wishful thinking coinciding with many factors that sndke bit the Bombers.
For instance. I keep hopping the Stamps are going to totally fall apart … But for the past since it seems forever they are always a good to great team.
I’m not saying Zach being elite was the only reason the Bombers were a dynasty, by the way. But it’s clear that a lot of their offensive success was predicated on elite play at the QB position that they’re no longer getting.
Similarly, their elite D players have either aged out of that performance category (Jefferson, Bighill) or retired (Jeffcoat).
Winnipeg had won nothing prior to them building defensive and offensive fronts that could compliment a good quarterback.
So stating that the team was built around the late addition Collaros, who became an elite player as a result of this build, is putting the cart before the horse.
Wpg fans might tolerate another 2 years of sub .500, non-playoff football before realizing its time to tie an anchor to O’Shea, Walters & even Wadzilla. Team doing just fine at box office, merchandising dept. & TV/Radio revenues. The Canadian Mafia has made homes for themselves in Wpg. Bomber fans still crowing about the 4 straight GC appearances w/ 2 Cups.
O’Shea didn’t get stupid overnite - but you can’t unlearn stubborn.
