The Ottawa Redblacks quarterback — known as Smilin’ Hank for his relentlessly sunny disposition — used a good chunk of his 30-minute media conference in Winnipeg Wednesday to outline a series of slights he says have become a significant source of motivation heading into Sunday’s Grey Cup game against the Edmonton Eskimos.
A number of them involve the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and, more specifically, the team’s general manager and head coach, Kent Austin.
“The fact that I helped turn organizations around, doing my job both on and off the field, to be sent packing the way that it occurred, as an athlete I always feel its disrespectful,” Burris said. “It is very personal to me. Some people say ‘let it go’ but that’s what motivates some of the best athletes ever. You have to play with a certain chip on your shoulder.”[/b]

As you should be. What more could you ask for in the lead-up to the championship game than the other team’s QB running a two-week long victory lap before the game has even been played. Will Henry even be able to pry the crown from his head to put the helmet on?

Me too. However there was a shot at the end of the game with Austin walking back to the dressing room with Ed Gainey. I assume he told him right there he was cut, lol.
Or maybe he was telling him, "keep your head up. Happens to the best of them "
I would hate to think the game would be blamed on one person. Austin is smarter than that.

BTW, if Austin does not Gainey anymore, we will take him here in Calgary. Cats can have dead weight Josh Bell.

I enjoy how this thread is mostly fans from other teams bashing Ti-Cats fans, while we have been absent for the most part.
Don't get why everyone has turned on our fanbase so badly, I think we took the loss in stride as most of us realized when Zach went down with a torn ACL so did our Grey Cup hopes, but in general the Ti-Cats just don't get a lot of respect, I have always tried to deny this as conspiracy and a Hamilton mentality but beginning to think it's true.
Burris has been loving rubbing it in our faces, when he really should be focussed on his time with his current team and the amazing things they have accomplished this season, as a TEAM, not all because of Hank as he'd like you to believe.
It is truly funny Hank thinks he is the QB that turned Hamilton around, if anyone can claim that title it'd be Kevin Glenn, not Burris. .
How about Brandon MacDonald? Has he been a good addition? Mouth aside, I liked him when he was here.
I am shocked by the amount of Burris bashing that has been going on.
I do not get it. The guy is a class act. No ego, he always puts the team first.
Also, great community guy. One of the best qb's the CFL has ever seen.
All fans should be grateful he is still playing.
As I said before, I want to see him get that next ring.

As is often the case, it’s probably really a matter of a few causing a bad perception of the whole.
So I have to ask…Just what does Hanky mean by this statement ? Is he p!ssed off because he’s in the Grey Cup ? Is he p!ssed off because he would rather still be a Ti-Cat ? Is he p!ssed off because he’s about to become the MOP of the league this season ?
Is he p!ssed off because he defeated his former team and coach in the EF ? Is he p!ssed off because he’s the starting QB for the REDBLACKS instead of the Cats ? Is he p!ssed off because he figures that if he was still the QB of the Cats then they would be in the Grey Cup instead of Ottawa ? This Burris guy takes the cake doesn’t he ? I mean the guy is going to be the starting qb in this year’s Grey Cup game…so I have to ask again…Just what does this guy have to be p!ssed off about ? The answer is simply he has NOTHING to be P!ssed off about , but for some reason this Henry guy is very angry and mad at the world :?
Strange , very strange indeed. You would think that he would be the happiest guy in the world with the way things turned out for him instead of being P-Oed about the circumstances that got him to where he is today.

Hank learned his trade in Saskatchewan with the Roughriders.
Calgary, Hamilton, Ottawa should be giving a share of their revenue to the Riders for all of the training given.
2. Seriously, any athlete or coach for that matter looks for extra motivation to propel themselves to perform better.
Whether the strategy is painting your team or yourself as the 'Underdog', 1 on 1 challenges between players, or magnifying perceived slights to motivate are all worthy strategies. Burris is / was doing / saying these things to motivate himself and his teammates. He is a competitor with intentions about motivation not derogatory comments. Amen! :rockin: 8)

Sadly I know you are right, it is the same thing with the forum across the board, there are a lot of really good posters and people i enjoy talking football with, then there are those dozen or so posters who make this place a headache to read sometimes.
I just feel like the Ti-Cats have been mentioned more this week than the past two Grey Cup weeks combined (obviously an exaggeration) but that is how it feels in my world. Just seems like Burris is having a great time trumpetting his own horn trying to rub it in the faces of the team’s who decided they wanted to move on. Its a business and Burris knows that, just seems like he has A LOT of sour grapes for a guy who is considered very classy and humble and also about to start in a Grey Cup and going to win MOP as Bobo pointed out, just don’t know why he has needed to act like the world did him wrong so many times and he is this mesiah who brought football back to Hamilton, Calgary and now his ultimate accomplishment Ottawa. I too thought he was a classy guy before but just the series of quotes he has put out there since that SImoni hit have really changed mine, and a lot of other fans opinions on Hank, rightly or wrongly everyone is entitled to an opinion.
Indeed. It’s not different than the guy who says he’s going to show all those teams who didn’t draft him what they missed out on. It’s an exaggerated slight to drive you.
Find a player who was always told that he was too small to be a pro. When he tells you that story, tell him to “get over it”. I doubt he’ll take your advice.
Burris really should be more angry with Calgary than Hamilton.
Calgary dumped him as a 36-year old in favour of a guy (Tate) who is not even a starter in the league anymore.
Hamilton dumped him as a 38-year old in favour of a guy who is both 13 years younger and already arguably a better player (when both are healthy).
Also, Burris had actually won a Grey Cup with Calgary, albeit a few years before they dropped him. (It’s a good thing, too, because unless he wins this Sunday, the legacy of his career may include just a single Grey Cup victory as a starter. That’s only one more than Kevin Glenn.)

Ticats handled his release in a very disrespectful way.
His release was evident… when he turned down the Cats offer to re-sign!
Other than Hank’s own comments about his release, is there any independant source that cohoberates that he found out via the media?

IIRC, at the time there were rumours that the Cats were interested in signing Collaros,
that afternoon when I opened Ticats.ca, I noticed Henry's pic was removed from the front page.
(before any announcement) I knew immediately that Zac must have been signed.
Thought it was a great move then and still am very happy with that signing!
