The Ticats have a very solid and experienced starting offensive line. I don’t think Hage, Hudson, Dyakowski, Gauthier and Goodspeed need to be told how to do their respective jobs at this point. The blocking assignments should not change from last year’s offense for these guys so it’s more about about execution than teaching.
Hopefully, Buratto will have a positive influence on the young, non-starting lineman. As someone stated earlier, Buratto should not hurt the Ticats as OL coach but I’m not sure he adds that much.
A good move in my opinion. Gibson was in charge of the hot-and-cold Cat offense last year and he didn’t even do much of that under Bellefeuille. His offense could be described as very unimaginative, inflexible and boring. This is the man who couldn’t figure out a way to get RB DeAndra Cobb ball more than 5-6 times a game. This is the guy who designed an offense that couldn’t score.
UNTIL GLENN CAME IN AND CAUGHT FIRE, OF COURSE. LOL
I am exaggerating…somewhat.
Okay, Cobb often went invisible, even during games during the run to the playoffs. The point is that we weren’t exactly setting the world on fire offensively for stretches during 2009 – especially in the first half of games. Any move that brings a proven CFL coach to share the workload should help a relatively new OC like Gibson develop. IF we can get the kind of QB production that Glenn displayed in the late season drive and the O-line can have the same continuity re injuries as last year, we should be in good shape.
I'm wondering if the hiring of Buratto means that the Cats won't be replacing WR coach Dennis Goldman, who recently left for Princeton? Will Gibson or another assistant coach take over Goldman's responsibilities?
Personally, I would hope it’s another qualified coach. Receiver coaches are very important in developing consistency in young talent. I really think Prechae needs to rebound big this year. Getting him “fixed” over last year’s performance is a biggie, IMHO. A new receiver coach will also have to work Bauman hard in camp because it really is his last chance to step up.
