Bud Light Canada becomes official beer of the CFL

With relationships between Canada and the USA at an all time low, this is remarkably tone-deaf. Regardless of where it’s actually brewed, you have partnered with the most American-sounding beer brand there is. A lot of people will be disappointed.

First time in one year, three years, 17 years, and three first-time posters. Wow, did this post get some attention!

The worst of all possible choices in my world. This is what I always think of when I hear Budwieser ( that’s a Confederate flag for those that need an explanation).

Apparently none of the posts in the last 17 years warranted a comment. Have been a Season Ticket holder for two teams in those 17 years and been to 14 grey cups in that time as well. Thanks for asking. How about you?

But the best selling beer in Canada, the choice of young people and that’s the market the CFL is after.
Do you think they should stop the Ford F-150 ads? it’s the best selling vehicle in Canada but made in the USA? or the RAM pickup a close second, made in the USA? or Honda Civics top selling car made in Indiana?

Why thank you and like I asked Bobo what have you been doing for the 17 years other than being a troll?

Well said. Tone-deaf is on the mark. Bud Light. Wow. With everything that going on, the CFL picked Bud Light. I don’t care who makes what beer, but something with at least a Canadian past and a better taste wouldn’t be a bad idea. In my mind, Bud Light is pretty USA. Would the brand make that much of a difference as to who decides to come to a game?

Well,
a) we don’t have a historic, legendary, Canadian pickup truck industry, and
b) a part of our whole national ethos is that Canadian beer is far better than American beer.

I’m not the only one who’s frustrated that Bud Light is somehow now the default beer in Canada. We can and should do better.

Just curious but what were the two teams you were a season ticket holder for ? As for the Cup I haven’t been to as many as you have over the years but I have been to 3 of the last 4 and 7 more on top of that going back to my first in “78” . Sadly never got the opportunity to see my team actually win one in person yet but did see them lose that one at home in ot in ‘21’ .

strike out? Seems more like he swung at the first pitch and flyball out at shortsop infield.

What’s wrong with this? Let’s see … it’s American (regardless of the current political climate) … it’s still heretical! It’s also woke as sh!t and this is football … kinda the anti-woke.

Why don’t we fire the commissioner effective yesterday and try this the right way.

Ticats for 32 years now and Argos for 17 years ironically. Unfortunately I am in the same boat with Grey Cup victories. But I also got to see them lose it live on a questionable penalty in 2014 too And get slaughtered in Regina in 2013

I am so sick and tired of all of you (mod edit) bitching about woke. (Mod edit) The world has changed and it’s better for it because it exposes the rednecks of the world.

Bud Light is desperate to regain market shares. They probably paid the league a bunch of money. I get that part, but no Man will drink that piss.

I don’t think this claim is true after perhaps “best selling beer in Canada,” but if you have a link, by all means share it.

Beer consumption is way down amongst young drinkers as well as in all age groups. Similar trends are at hand also in the US.

Regardless, the CFL has better choices and could have selected a brand that is CANADIAN, no matter which multinational owns the brewing and beverage company.

2. Categories affected: what are people drinking less of?

Examining alcohol categories, beer consumption has seen a substantial decrease. In the latest survey, 30% of Canadian adults claim to have drunk beer in the past month compared to 46% in the Fall 2018 survey, a drop of 35%. Coolers/pre-mixed drinks, on the other hand, are gaining popularity, especially in the Prairies with a 22% increase.

However, the habits of non-drinkers are evolving, likely influenced by their younger age profile. When comparing the results to the fall 2018 survey this group is more likely to say “I enjoy being extravagant/indulgent” or “Staying connected via social media is very important to me” than they were before.

Their leisure activities are evolving. Their participation in camping, yoga/pilates, home exercise, skiing and video games have all increased when compared to fall 2018 results. Also, 28% of them have been to a bar one or more times in the past year compared to only 19% in fall 2018.

Essentially the active, younger non-drinkers are more likely to run out for a binge night or party, but that’s not a novel trend.

I’m going to put this here for the sake of additional feedback and insight into these current mysterious phenomena. I had no idea 2025 was the 17th year, did you!?

The broody locusts are upon the CFL!
:exploding_head:

I don’t know why everyone are complaining about this. A sponsorship with a major brewery right off the bat. Good for him. I drink reg. Bud because I like a Larger. I have yet to see a craft brewery that even makes one. It’s all some specialty swill. The days of the Schenley Awards are long past and as far as “It’s American”, Oh, I guess we shouldn’t use footballs, they are made in the States.

Good luck with that, A million beers and you come up with this?

Necro’ing old threads during the off-season was apparently NOT enough!
Nope, now we have to see resurrection!
Ah well, at least those are fans of the CFL, so much the better here for the new season.
