Bowman practicing with 2nd team D

Yup, can you feel the panic setting in?

It might be a CFL rule. Bowman is out for the Esks, so we`re not allowed to play our Bowman.

Looking at others at DE's ? Unless Jim Popp has information we don't have/ signed DE's unknown to us, there are not too many DE's to look at. Bowman,Knapton and Sam are the only Int. ones on present active roster. Add Int. Lavarias who will come off the 6 game injured list. Not too much looking at/options. I definitely don't consider Nat. Jesse Joseph a good DE.

Richard

Is Edmonton's Bowman ready to go? Was injured against BC and forced to leave the game. We may have to wait a few days to know for sure.

Richard

Is apparently out.

And coaching. They all smell.

Not that surprising to me considering the circumstances. Plus, I have a feeling Sam will in the starting lineup sometime this year. Lots of guys on the team are not youngsters anymore. When your record is not considered acceptable, the veterans are usually first to take the blame. If things do not turnaround, I could easily seem more of them not fitting into the Als future.

If I see that same BS three-man rush from Thorpe this week and it turns out that it's coming from him and not Higgins, I will seriously question Thorpe's competence. He has taken the best unit on the team and neutered it for no discernible reason.

I hope at the end of the season they really look at getting a young guy to lead this team. A Mike Benevides or a Mark Washington. Let Jim hire his HC. This team is just spinning its wheels. Higgins tells you in camp he’s never seen this much talent in 25 years and six games in. He’s experimenting…

Marcus Brady would be my candidate. Young, capable, bright, has spent years learning to coach the right way under some of the finest offensive minds in the business (Trestman and Milanovich).

Would you keep Shonert as the OC?
If not, who would replace him?

Brady, Washington, Barron Miles, Orlondo Steinauer, and Paul LaPolice would be on my candidate short list.

I would send Schonert packing and make Brady the HC and de facto OC, with Calvillo as the QB coach and titular OC (the same arrangement we had with Trestman and Milanovich). So Brady would be in charge of the offense and would design the playbook with input from AC – in games, Brady would call the plays. As AC grows into the role, he would gradually take on more responsibility: being in charge of the running game, for example, as Milanovich was in his last few years in Montreal. At some point, if things work out, AC would assume total control of the offense, but that would be years down the line. Let’s bring people along the right way for a change.

As for Hfx’s list, I agree with everyone there except LaPolice (flopped the first time and hasn’t coached since being fired) and Miles (never been a DC and I’d want him to have that experience first before becoming HC).

Another good candidate.

I’m not a Lapolice fan. If he was a true coach at heart, he wouldn’t be working as a cardboard cutout on TSN.

I like him on TSN but it’s been a few years now that he’s been out of coaching and past a certain point you have to wonder if he’s out of the game for a reason. I mean, Higgins had been in officiating for seven years when we came calling. Danger signal IMO.

This is what Herb tweeted earlier:

Same old. John Bowman + Jerald Brown not practising with #Als' starting defence. Jonathan Hefney sharing reps with Terry Johnson.

I wonder,Sheldon, who is practicing at DE if Sam is limping and if John is still with scout team. Not too many DE's,unless new ones in.

Richard

Maybe Thorpe has a new super-prevent scheme which does not require DEs.

Too bad Heffney is still around.

Yesterday Moffat said it was Lavarias in Bowman`s spot.

Herb also saying Sutton looks ready to go. Judging from the Ott. game I find Rutley a more complete back, able to catch passes in the flat. Although I don`t know how he rates as a blocker, there was lots of pressure up the middle on Cato.
