Bombers win West Division with walk-off field goal

MONTREAL – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers needed a win or tie to claim the West Division on Saturday afternoon, and despite rain and wind picking up in the final seconds, they successfully kicked a walk-off field goal to defeat the Montreal Alouettes 28-27 at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium.

Not sure why Montreal didn’t let the first field goal go into the end zone
Give up the point and get the ball at the 40

Pretty sure the 1st one was short

But what a kick in crazy conditions with the gusts & rain. Might just be the best FG I have ever seen!

Man, what a crazy ending to the game! For those who doubt climate change - well…?

I wasn’t at the game but I live less than 10 km away, and those strong gusts of wind rampaged through our neighbourhood a few minutes before it hit the stadium. (kinda ticked me off a bit because I had just finished raking the leaves, and other leaves from across the street blew into our yard!) Anyway, it was absolutely terrible timing for the Als. They now go into the playoffs with a 1-4-1 record over their last 6 games.

Unbelievable, football gods really wanted Winnipeg to win this one. Winds went wild 10 seconds before Montreal was punting resulting in a 25 yard punt and instant field goal range. Frustrating watching the bombers get gifted 1st place in a game they didn’t deserve to win… yes I’m a salty riders fan haha. Enjoy your bye Winnipeg

What wrong would that be? They would have been way out of field goal range if that hurricane didn’t hit before the als pointed.

“Punted”

Agreed. And you know what O’Shea is gonna say… “a wind is a wind.”

WAYWARD BREAKING WIND FOR THE WIN!

What would have happened if the punter had taken a time count violation while waiting for the wind/leaves to calm down? Or a time out if they had any left?

I’m a bit surprised they didn’t take a procedure or time count violation. Is it possible that the penalty could have been declined and become change of possession?

IMO, the first offensive play… Bombers intercepted. Not called, no review, no challenge. What decent coach challenges a play with 59:48 left in the game. Karma is a fickled bitc#…I’m not religious but I’ll say… Mother nature loves the Bombers.

The 2024 CFL West Division Champion Winnipeg Blue Bombers have a higher power on their side. I know it’s true, oh, so true, cause I saw it on tv.

Huge, fantastic day for my ‘Win-ner-peg’ sports teams today! Blue Bombers, U of Manitoba Bisons (football) & Jets all win! Bombers & Bisons both have excellent chances to win the Grey Cup & Vanier Cup next month! Go Blue Bombers!

I concur. Big win for Bombers and Bisons. Onward to better days.

And it turned out nice again (after some timely climate change)
