bombers vs riders

OMG !!! Nobody is talking about rewarding Marcel B  The conversation is… do we fire him or demote him ???

Scroll back up kasps. . . someone IS talking about moving Marcel B up to head coach.

We need someone with fire. Someone who won't accept failure. Someone who doesn't tolerate excuses. Someone who wants to win, more than he wants to be liked. Doug Berry keeps coming to mind, but my first pick would be Tom Clements. I know he's probably not looking north, but I can dream. Clements has success follow him around and he seems like a no nonsense type of guy. I would open the vault to get this guy. Too much money some would say. Well, I say look at all the coin that's been wasted just in the last five years and how much more that will be lost if this franchise sticks to the 'game plan'.

Dear Mr. Clements

Please come back. Come back to the city that remembers and loves you. It's not that far from Green Bay ! You can have Cart-Blanche control. Please come back. Think of the good ole days. It's where you got your football feet wet. Please come back. We need help ! You've coached at almost every level except the CFL. Don't you want to come full circle and be a success up here ? Pretty please come back. We are LOST. We need you to lead us out of the fog. We need guidance. We need HELP !!!!!
                                                                                                                      Please come back
                                                                                                                  An Ashamed Bomber Fan

P.S. If you aren't coming back, do you know anybody that will come up and help us ? ANYBODY !!!

A little levity.
I know I'm not from Winnipeg but this is how I feel. I care more about the Bombers than any other team in any sport.

Hall may not be a viable permanent HC choice, but who better to take over as interim for the remainder of the season? He is well-respected around the league, his players play for him, and his D hasn't been the reason for the collapse. They've been on the field too long is all. Let him assume interim HC duties just like Dyce did in SSK, with the understanding that a thorough search for the next HC will happen the second the season is over.

And I agree with MJ: why reward Bellefeuille for failure? His whole CFL coaching career has been about getting second and third chances despite mediocrity or under-achievement. Don't reward his gong show this season with a promotion. Get him out of there, put Howell in charge for the remainder, scrape together a basic playbook for Nichols, and try to salvage what you can of the season. Then make the sweeping, permanent changes in the offseason, when you can canvas for the largest pool of qualified candidates.

...Some good suggestions but I think if presented to the trio...Miller, Walters and O'Shea they would fall on deaf ears...they are all connected at the hip and may all have to go...Not a pretty picture for the Wpg. franchise for the rest of the year...a year in which we should have at least made post season...My suggestion would be is to fire Marcel immediately and give Howell the oc position until the end of the year...IF he proves to be a viable co-ordinator keep him there...and if not, find one in the off-season...Keep Brohm around for short yardage plays and start Nichols...Hall has to stay where he is....The d is the only bright light right now on a listing ship....O'Shea, unfortunately has to stay as head coach until the end of the year....after that, fire his arse...he is not head coach material...Try to sign Henoc (going to be a tough sell right now, but we have to bring him in) and if we fail to do so I think the other part of the trio (wade and walters) have to have their positions reviewed at seasons end...Get rid of McManus and get a proper scout in place down south...His performance has been lacklustre in a year when we needed to unearth diamonds (sorry Danny)...Lastly...I would like to see another kicker brought in (thought we had but haven't seen or heard a word on him)...Hallelujahs kicking (not place kicking) has gone into the dumpster and if he is indeed seeking an nfl deal we have to have someone waiting in the wings..The way things are going, I wouldn't be surprised to see the team remain status quo, and that is an insult to the already pile of insults this management has foisted on this club...Big red flag going up boys and something has to be done NOW :thdn: :thdn: :thdn:

I think its way to early to chop heads in management . I’d give O Shea till the end of the season but MB would have to go now.I really don’t mind Lawless’s suggestion of moving Buck up as a interm OC, or anyoneelse who would be at least half way able to plan a game. The special teams coach could accompany him out the door.

I don't think you need to keep Marcel B. just because you don't want to change the playbook. The idea of firing him and promoting either Buck or Markus Howell is that you can still use the essence of the current playbook but make modifications as you go along and change up the playcalling and offensive philosophy from what Marcel was doing. What's even more embarrassing than how the offense has been trending downwards since the early part of the season with or without Willy? Nick Moore says after the LDC that the Riders were running a pretty vanilla scheme, maybe even more basic than they did in that first game of the season. How much worse does the offense look after you hear something like that?

I'm not sure the penalties mean that the players have tuned out O'Shea. I think it can mean quite the opposite actually. They maybe get along with him too well and know that he will openly back them up in the media and probably won't have to face any repercussions for their actions.

Dan38, I'd love to see Tom Clements here too but he's in a cushy job in Green Bay working with Aaron Rodgers. It would probably take a lot of money to make that happened. I'd be stunned. But there are other former Bomber players that are coaches in the NCAA or other levels, Paul Randolph for instance who's an assistant HC and DC with the Arizona Sun Devils.

I think there needs to be a massive shift in thinking at the HC, GM, and scouting levels - when they formed the new management and coaching staffs, there was an emphasis on Canadians. Now. we're starting 8 Canadians most of this season instead of the mandatory 7. Why? Are we that bereft of International talent? Does anyone think our Nationals are so good that we should be starting 8? I'm all for the idea, but either our HC is forcing it or we're not getting good enough international talent to start the full compliment of Americans possible, and neither scenario is good. We could replace Hurl with Simmons or Bucknor with maybe Posey off the PR, but I think the best thing would be to find another International to put on the Oline to help give whoever plays QB and extra second or two to look downfield or do a better job in run blocking. Could be a LG to replace Greaves, could be a RT to replace Neufeld who hasn't exactly been a stud at his more natural position

I would agree that Hall is a far better coordinator, but Marcel has been a better HC. I was impressed with what Marcel got out of Hamilton those 3 years. The worst move Obie made in his career was to let Marcel go and replace him with that putz Cortez. They had a good thing going, ready to take that next step, then blew it.

Coordinating and head coaching are very different jobs. Hall is excellent with x’s and o’s, where Marcel has generally struggled his whole career, but Marcel is better at managing people and getting results from them. Marcel has a better sense of business, whereas Hall is a little too - for lack of a better word - ‘nice’.
