bombers sign new punter

WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers upgraded their special teams unit today with the addition of punter Sam Paulescu to the team’s developmental squad.

As per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Paulescu (6-0, 190, Oregon State ’05, DOB: April 4, 1984 in Los Angeles, Calif.) was one of the best kept secrets in U.S. college football.

In 23 games at Oregon State he punted 128 times for 5,464 yards and a 42-yard average. That included 48 punts that were downed inside the 20-yard line. Another 25 of his punts resulted in either touchbacks or fair catches. Only 50 of Paulescu’s punts were returned and he finished his career at Oregon State with a 38.7-yard net punting average.

An All-Conference selection as a member of the Oregon Beavers, Paulescu (pronounced PAH-less-cue) was ranked among the top three punters at last April’s NFL Combine.

“He’s a guy we’ve been trying to get in here for some time now and we’re pleased he’s come in here and given us a chance to evaluate him,? said Blue Bombers G.M. Brendan Taman.

I don’t think Omiss has done too bad, but at least if he goes missing again, we have this guy to fall back on.
