Very sad to hear this. While maybe not an elite receiver or shining star in the league, Wolli set an example of consistency and dependability for others for the majority of his time in Blue & Gold. He was a great 2nd & long receiver when we needed one. We will miss his presence and his two good hands. Good luck Drew!

Too bad for Wally (Wolitarski). He was one of the good ones. On and off the field.

Have to believe Canadian Mafia started buying into the stark realization their squad was aging to the point of impending disaster in 2025 (Grey Cup in Winnipeg)

Wally prolly drew a decent salary, too - a salary the Bombers will now re-deploy to add heft & power in the trenches.

Think Wally will trudge on (if healed) and get a tryout in Ottawa or Hamilton, outside chance in Edmonton with a salary haircut.

Bombers couldn’t get rid of other vets like Jake Thomas, Neufeld, Lord Stanley Bryant, etc. cuz they had no one in the system any better. So far, they’ve taken it out on Bighill and Wolitarski. More to come.

Still a real possibility of an impending disaster in Winnipeg. I’m talking 8-10 record - OR WORSE!

Drew W a salary contract dump?

Was he due a bonus?
That usually is one reason for getting cut in thd cfl

I did. All part of getting younger as every poster on this board urges them to do. Smart move even though it is tough to move on from a loyal long term player. This may mean best buddy Streveler won’t be signed as well.

Drew is 29, so not old. I think it had more to do with the bonus/salary and maybe they’ve got their eye on cheaper rookies.

As I have stated many times here, I like Streveler. As a teammate and presence in the locker room, yes. As a backup QB in the CFL with the receiving corps we have in YWG…no. If we’re cutting guys like Wolitarsky, then a guy like Streveler should absolutely be next.

I’m sure he won’t be unemployed for long.

Well the Bombers perenially have the best receiving corps in the league so this is where they can stand to lose a player or two. I expect they won’t sign Schoen either. Clercius will fill in nicely for Wolitarsky and may very well be better.

From what I read it was only for a measly $12,000 . Relative peanuts when you think about it and not nearly enough to justify releasing the guy to save some cash .

I’m not surprised they cut Drew. But he’s a guy that should be picked up elsewhere. He was on my “longer” list. At 29 cutting him doesn’t make the team younger but can’t disagree.

See what they do with the weakness in the trenches. Bringing back Thomas was a head scratcher. If they had anyone on board to fill in for Neufeld I would have let him go. He himself has admitted he wasn’t good & age isn’t on his side. Maybe they spend @ RT to switch things up. But they’re few & far between & expensive. At DT maybe Ceresna is a possibility with the rumoured $$$ issues in Toronto. As for Streveler - if they cut him I would be mildly surprised. They should move on because he isn’t a CFL passer. Completely agree.

Look at the top of their FA list & Alexander, Augustine & Benson would be easy cuts. Do that & now you’re starting to look a little serious.

And as I have stated many times, I am the fly in the soup and believe Streveler to be a very good back up QB who learned a lot from his time in the NFL. Impossible to prove or disprove that from last year though. What is clear is that the Bombers should not be relying on Wilson and Dolegala after Zach this year and they need to sign a back up QB, whether it is Streveler or not. Streveler and Bighill are arguably the two best leaders in the entire league so losing both would have a huge negative impact in that area.

Bombers have Clersius who has shown promise. Could see the writing on the wall with Woli’s injury last season and the replacements’ ascendancy.

We’ll take him here yes please!

This again, Jon?? His longest completion last year was 21 yds. That could mean one of 2 things - he never attempted a pass longer than 21 yds OR he did get out of his comfort zone & had attempts over 21 yds but never completed them. He had the lowest total of anyone in the top 25. In fact even Harrison Frost & Bryan Scott who had 12 & 5 pass attempts did better. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

You have said before that, in areas of contention, you would defer to the professionals who know better than us “fans”. Well, Jon, Mike O’Shea & Buck Pierce gave Chris a heavy dose of short passes & run options in his one start. There’s a reason for that - they know who Chris Streveler is. Impossible to prove? The evidence is pretty clear.

As a FA he doesn’t register on any FA lists as a top choice for that position. Chris Streveler is an icon among fans for playing injured in one playoff & his “fashion sense” in the GC parade. Outside the odd fly in the soup, I don’t know of any CFL experts who have Streveler as anything but a good 3rd down QB. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:
