TORONTO — The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have filed their first injury report ahead of their matchup against the Calgary Stampeders on Friday at McMahon Stadium.
Just a guess that the Bombers will deploy a 2 QB system on Friday vs. the rugged and often cheap-hitting Stampeders - Skip Prokop and Dru Brown w/ Brown starting. Gotta protect the asset Collaros, even if he brought the injury upon himself.
That would be the plan but as per CFL Gamer’s Manual - Coach O’Shea will have to play some games with the media, fans & opponents by putting the starting QB decision in doubt until late Wednesday or Thursday morning at the latest.
O’Shea playing games with Media and fans by putting doubt until Late Wed or Thru. Sorry but that ship has already sailed all season long. No one is falling for O’Shea saying Questionable any more.
As many here have stated, everyone is so used to not getting more clear status updates, that it doesnt really matter anymore. But it clearly annoys someone here week after week.
Here’s O’Shea’s motivation for always putting questionable, if you choose to believe. It’s not for any team advantage over the opposition. Its for the players’ morale and psyche.
There was no update on the potential availability of Collaros for Friday in Calgary with O’Shea giving this answer when asked if there was any means of trying to gain a competitive advantage by keeping is QB1’s status unknown:
“None. It’s based on our team,” he said. “In our quarterbacks’ case – and you were talking about how late it is to know (whether a guy will play) – we just have such confidence in the guys we have in the building at all positions, so I don’t think there is a lot of worry or concern about the actual roster. In the building we’re always concerned about the health of our guys, the health of the player, the person… not the roster. We’re just in a situation, and maybe it’s different at different times, where we like the guys we have in our building.
“Over the course of time you’ve heard me say I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. It wears on everybody hearing the same thing, but I’m not changing what I believe in. If a player is that determined and it’s supposed to be that way, they’re going to find a way to play. Some guys can’t… sometimes there’s just obvious injuries where a guy can’t.
“I want to give the players as much hope as possible. They hold out so much hope. Every day when they show up for treatment, they’re looking for a positive response, they’re looking for Al (Couture, Head Athletic Therapoist) to look at them and say, ‘Hey, you’re close.’ It just fuels them further. Why change that? Why dash their hopes?”
He does something similar with interviewers’ long-winded questions trying to corner him into the answer they want.
I haven’t seen a football coach have this much fun with the media since Bud Grant retired from the NFL. I hope he never stops doing it.
As we have seen every week O’Shea has listed all his injured players as “Questionable” even Collaros , so of course they all will be eligible to play. Not to say they will make the depth chart (except Collaros) but they could if O’Shea needs them.
