EDMONTON – Even when it looked like it would finally be the Edmonton Elks’ night, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers showed why they sit stop the West Division.
The Elk offence did a decent job, but Chris Jones’ defence let the rest of the team down. Where was the famous defense when the Elks needed it? Not trying to down play the Bombers but really !
So sad that the Elks can not get rid of the real problem, Chris Jones
I mean can the organization survive another 2 years of this?
I tuned in when when it was 22-0. My first thought was, “well at least the fans in Edmonton will finally get a win - and against a great team.”
My second thought was, “there’s plenty of time left. If any team can pull this out it’s the Bombers. And if any team can screw this up it’s the Elks.”
Did Dru Brown make history last night? When was the last time a backup QB came into the game to erase a 22-point deficit? Amazing comeback and great team effort by the Bombers! That was one of the most exciting games of the season so far. Hopefully Collaros is okay and ready to come back soon. But if not, Dru Brown will get another opportunity against a stout Calgary defence which should make for a good game.
I would strongly advise Bombers to rest Collaros next game vs. Calgary, even if he claims its only a minor concussion or minor neck injury (no such thing).
The Stamps may be a mediocre club competing w/ Regina for 3rd in West (or crossover) but they smack people pretty hard and it appears both Hardick & Bryant cannot keep d guys off of Collaros. I think this will be final year for at least one of Hardick or Bryant, prolly Hardick.
Collaros could dress as the emergency QB but god forbid they start him and he gets smacked senseless by the Stamps bitter hard-hitters.
As not only a Blue Bomber’s fan, but a CFL fan, its always difficult seeing the starting QB go out with an injury and certainly hope Zac will be ok but after watching the reply a number of times, not going to say it was a dirty hit and although some may feel it was too late, its really difficult to say for sure. Guys are flying around so fast and whether or not, it could have been avoided, only the player himself knows for sure. But do think they got the call right.
However, for Drew Brown to go in cold, and 22 points down and do what he did was something to watch. As Matt mentioned in postgame, he certainly made Zac and his teammates proud. For Elk fans, when it rains, it pours but have to believe once that do get that first one, they will turn things around and once again be a pain in the butt for all the other teams.
On a different play did anyone else think that Mitchell didn’t catch the long ball. The ball appeared to make contact with the ground. I think that’s why Edm tried a quick snap after the play. Mute point as they just turned the ball over on the fumble.
It’s hard for 360 pounds of DL to stop that quick and in replay when he dove, Collaros was not down yet. And to his credit he did everything he could to avoid contact.
Good signs for the Elks but mistakes again cost us the game. Wish they would have turned Ford loose a little earlier though With two weeks with Jackson as OC I don’t think they had enough tricks in their bag to make big enough half time adjustments.
I’ve always thought it a shame that we’ve seen so many wonderful efforts nullified by the fact a tiny part of the ball touchs the ground, sometimes having no real effect on the catch. Sadly, the only answer to that would be making it another judgement call for the official, something I don’t really want to see either.
When the score was 22 zip for the Elks and Winnipeg scored their first TD I thought, “Oh oh, here we go. The Bombers are just getting warmed up.” I’m curious, does Edmonton’s head coach Chris Jones have a special clause in his contract forbidding him to be replaced? This surely has to be a coaching issue. He may be good and have the credentials but I’ve seen coaches be let go much sooner. There seems to be a chemistry issue here.
I’m not sure how long Chris Jones contract is for but the Elks are still paying their last two head coach’s and Chris Jones. The only way they can replace him is if they can find someone who will work for peanuts the rest of this season and probably the next.
Question for the Elks…
Is there anyone in the Elks organization willing to take on the head coaching job without getting a raise?
Chris Jones is really great at one thing only - negotiating coaching contracts that give him tons of money - and even more money if aborted early! GENIUS!
