Welcome back Dakota!
May you always have success on short yardage and never be required to throw another pass in a Grey Cup Game ever again!

Stink that it come at the cost of Pigrome but that’s the business.

WHAT?!

I thought that Filet Pigrome was our ace in the hole in case Zach Collaros had to miss a few games later this season. Of all of our lesser known talents behind center THAT GUY worked the rock downfield the best. I’d have kept Pigrome and released Brown if I had to jettison a backup.

This could be an opportunity for Hamilton or Ottawa to bolster their QB depth. Maybe we’ll get lucky and Pigrome will clear waivers and wind up back here in Winnipeg later on. I think more likely he’s gonna come back and haunt us in a year or two.

Personally, rather have Brown as a backup option. He has looked serviceable so far. But just my opinion.

Was hoping he would come back to Toronto. Need some XP behind Kelly and I think would have been a better fit than MBT if he became available.

You may be right but if you take one look at their numbers, Filet Pigrome is the clear preseason winner.

I dunno, there was something up with Pigrome. Hadn’t been used in short yardage since he got stuffed twice at the goal line.
I agree he looked good in one game but that was a very small sample of his potential.
I think Brown is a better option if the unthinkable happened.

Serviceable - but is he of championship stock?

Won’t know till given the chance. And that’s true of every player, I understand that.

MBT is the only free agent QB who could come back to CFL and lead a team to .500+
Pigrome will be easily gobbled up by a bottom-feeding CFL team (Ottawa, Edmonton, Hamilton) for PR purposes.
Wonder why Kyle Walters didn’t try to practice roster Pigrome. Or sign Prukop to the PR - and give Pigrome a chance to show his wares vs. Montreal (once the Als had kick-stomped the Bombers to the curb)

It could be that Kyle Walters has come to the realization that there are no current options for us if the unthinkable happens. He’d rather have a third down specialist than a so-so backup to our 2-time MOP.

Thats the clearest thinking on the matter yet . . . . until we hear from Walters or O’Shea - and then they would only give us some muddled cup of tea.
Frankly, if Bombers tall foreheads can’t solve obvious problems on their O & D lines they’ll begin losing with consistency vs. winning with consistency!

just like Ambrosie said the cfl is serious need of some decent QB’S around the league.

No offence to Pigrome but he’s built like a RB & not the ideal short yardage “fit”. With the league mandating 3 QB’s on the roster, every team now has a short yard specialist. Dom Davis, Caleb Evans, Tommy Stevens - they’re all bigger bodies. As soon as Prukop became available, Pigrome’s stint was over. You should be happy, really. Prukop fits the bill. Pigrome 2 carries, 0.5 yds? “Short” sample but this wasn’t going to work out.

If a team picks him up, they have to see him as a backup, not the 3rd guy. Not too many 5’9" QB’s around anymore. The league has been going bigger @ QB for quite a long time now. Cheers. :sunglasses:

Prukop is excellent on short yardage and has usually been good when left in for a quick hit package for a couple of reps.
Not going to second guess Buck and O’Shea for this decision as we don’t know what was up with Piggy. Maybe too short as you point out.

Me neither. Every time our tall foreheads do something that makes me nervous I just remind myself that their decisions have kept us at or near the top of the standings for the last three seasons.

I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt here. Prukop’s the better choice for 3rd string THIS year. We’ll see if Pigrome works wonders for some other team and comes back to haunt us next year.

Dakota Prukop did a great job last year with the Blue and Gold and very pleased to see the Bombers signed him after being released by the Generals.

We picked him bacl up before Edm could get a chance.
Sorry to see the promising Piggy go, but hopefully we can get him back for TC next year.
And agreed with all that we needed to upgrade our short yardage game.
I just maybe would have rathered spend $$ on a LBer or DE.

Different body type but Kevin “Field Mouse” Glenn was the best short QB (aside from 5’9" 1/2" Doug Flutie) I’ve ever seen in Canadian football. Even in his early years, Glenn was always a drop back guy first, a scrambler 2nd and his scrambling left much to the imagination. Like the very athletic and power-packed Pigrome, Glenn wasn’t built to be a short yardage guy unless the team didn’t have anyone else.
Passing wise, Glenn possessed a surprisingly strong arm for such a compact body, but being a drop back, he was forced to toss into tight windows and double coverage else be sacked - hence his high interception totals.
Kevin Glenn’s pic should be next to the word ‘Perserverance’ in the dictionary. A great career - I think he played for nearly every team and was denied a Grey Cup with Winnipeg when he screwed up a snap and damaged his arm in the western Final.
Pigrome’s inability to ever learn short yardage was his undoing. But no doubt a bottom-feeder will scoop him up from the scrap heap and put him on their roster.

Despite assurances from Osh that “things will change next week” I suspect the Bombers will be placing a down payment on a panic button if they get their arses handed to them by a fairly good Montreal team this weekend (a fairly good team with a superb defense)
